  1. 1. The role of transforming growth factor‐β signaling and hypoxia‐inducible factors in renal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Pramod Mallikarjuna; Maréne Landström; Börje Ljungberg; Raviprakash Tumkur Sitaram; Anders Bjartell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-β; Hypoxia; Renal cell carcinoma; ccRCC; non-ccRCC; transforming growth factor-β; ALK5; pVHL; HIF-α; SNAIL1; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. 2. 2. HIF-dependent Signaling Pathways in Cancer

    Författare :Elinn Johansson; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; Hypoxia; ccRCC; glioma; CD44; Notch1; reactive astrocytes;

    Sammanfattning : The cellular response to hypoxia, primarily orchestrated by hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs; mainly HIF-1α and HIF-2α), is at the center of several signaling pathways conferring aggressive tumor behavior. HIFs may be crucially involved in tumor initiation, as seen in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, as well as maintenance of resistance cancer stem cell phenotypes, as observed in glioma. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Wilms' tumor gene 1 in different types of cancer

    Författare :Xingru Li; Aihong Li; Karin Nylander; Eva Lundin; Xiaolian Gu; David M. Loeb; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; WT1; AML; MRD; ccRCC; SNPs; DNA methylation; SCCHN; p63; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) was first reported as a tumor suppressor gene in Wilms’ tumor. However, later studies have shown the oncogenic properties of WT1 in a variety of tumors. It was recently proposed that WT1 was a chameleon gene, due to its dual functions in tumorigenesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Axl RTK and microRNAs in urogenital cancers

    Författare :Helena Fritz; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four projects focused on the Axl receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) and microRNAs in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and in prostate cancer (PCa). Paper I focuses on differentially expressed microRNAs in ccRCC. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Signalling pathways in renal cell carcinoma with a focus on telomerase regulation

    Författare :Raviprakash Tumkur Sitaram; Göran Roos; Anders Bjartell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Renal cell carcinoma; DJ-1; NBS1; PTEN; WT1; cMyc; hTERT; telomerase; Pathology; Patologi; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein complex that catalyses telomeric repeat addition at the ends of chromosomes. The catalytic subunit, hTERT, acts as a key determinant for telomerase activity control; the induction of hTERT expression is required for telomerase activity. LÄS MER
