  1. 16. Aspects on Strenght Delivery and Higher Utilisation of the Strength Potential of Kraft Pulp Fibres

    Författare :Elisabet Brännvall; Mikael Lindström; Herbert Sixta; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Studies on strength delivery and related fields have so far concentrated on finding the locations in the mill where fibres are damaged and what the damages consist of. However, fibres will invariably encounter mechanical stresses along the fibreline and in this thesis a new concept is introduced; the vulnerability of fibres to mechanical treatment. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Polyelectrolyte Complexes : Their Characterization and use for Modification of Wood Fibre Surfaces

    Författare :Linda Gärdlund; Lars Wågberg; Robert Pelton; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Chemical engineering;

    Sammanfattning : For economical reasons filler particles and less expensive fibre raw materials are more frequently used in papermaking. This influences the mechanical properties of the formed papers in a negative way and it is therefore necessary to add strength-enhancing agents to the papermaking furnish. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Fenton Pre-treatment of a Birch Kraft Pulp for MFC preparation

    Författare :Pia Hellström; Helena Håkansson; Anette Heijnesson Hultén; Magnus Paulsson; Monica Ek; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microfibrillated cellulose; Fenton chemistry; carbonyl groups; surface charge; total charge; Enzymatic hydrolysis; Tensile strength; z-directional strength; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The potential to use acidic hydrogen peroxide in the presence of ferrous ions (Fenton’s reagent) as a pre-treatment when producing microfibrillar cellulose (MFC) from a fully bleached birch (Betula verucosa) kraft pulp was investigated and the properties of the produced MFC was compared to the properties of a MFC produced with enzymatic pre-treatment with a monocomponent endoglucanase (FiberCare® R). The mechanical treatment to MFC was performed in a laboratory colloid mill or in a pilot high-pressure homogeniser and the pre-treated pulps as well as the produced MFCs were chemically and morphologically characterised. 4. 19. Eco-friendly and Catalytic Surface Engineering of Cellulose and Nanocellulose

    Författare :Rana Alimohammadzadeh; Armando Cordova; Dan Bylund; Monica Ek; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The non-stop use of petroleum-based materials such as plastics can generate significant environmental problems, including pollution of the oceans and increased CO2 levels, and cause diseases like cancer due to the starting monomers. Consequently, increased use of sustainable and non-toxic polymers and monomers is required to address these issues. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Mechanical Pulp-Based Nanocellulose : Processing and applications relating to paper and paperboard, composite films, and foams

    Författare :Sinke Henshaw Osong; Per Engstrand; Sven Norgren; Mark Martinez; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mechanical pulp; thermo-mechanical pulp; chemi-thermomechanical pulp; fractionation; fines; homogenisation; nanocellulose; nano-ligno-cellulose; microfibrillated cellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose; paper; strength properties; crill; TEMPO; nanographite NG ; composite films;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with processing of nanocellulose originating from pulps, with focus on mechanical pulp fibres and fines fractions. The nanocellulose materials produced within this research project were tested for different purposes ranging from strength additives in paper and paperboard products, via composite films to foam materials.
