  1. 6. Wastewater discharges and microbial variability in a surface water source

    Författare :Johan Åström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; faecal indicators; pathogens; drinking-water; microbial risk assessment; variability; rainfall; catchment; wastewater; surface water; Hazardous events;

    Sammanfattning : Planning for drinking-water safety in surface waters includes a systematic assessment of hazards in the catchment, and microbial contamination is considered a major health risk. The aim of this thesis was to identify and characterize microbial hazardous events reported for River Göta älv, Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Quantifying pollutant spreading and the risk of water pollution in hydrological catchments : A solute travel time-based scenario approach

    Författare :Klas Persson; Georgia Destouni; Aldo Fiori; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water pollution; catchment; pollution risk; scenario analysis; uncertainty; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The research presented in the thesis develops an approach for the estimation and mapping of pollutant spreading in catchments and the associated uncertainty and risk of pollution. The first step in the approach is the quantification and mapping of statistical and geographical distributions of advective solute travel times from pollutant input locations to downstream recipients. 3. 8. Regulation of carbon dioxide emission from Swedish boreal lakes and the Gulf of Bothnia

    Författare :Grete Algesten; Mats Jansson; Pirkko Kortelainen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; lakes; boreal; Gulf of bothnia; CO2; NEE; DOC; mineralization; sediment; catchment; net heterotrophy; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The global carbon cycle is subject to intense research, where sources and sinks for greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide in particular, are estimated for various systems and biomes. Lakes have previously been neglected in carbon balance estimations, but have recently been recognized to be significant net sources of CO2. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Waterborne sediment and pollutant transport into lakes and accumulation in lake sediments

    Författare :Gull Olli; Gia Destouni; Ingmar Renberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Catchment; environmental projects; erosion; eutrophication; phosphorous transport and retention; soil transport; sediment accumulation; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The general objective of this thesis is to contribute to the knowledge of the transport of sediments and pollutants from catchments to downstream water recipient systems and their accumulation in these systems, such as lakes and lake sediments. One part of the thesis studies the importance of drainage reach morphology and water flow for the phosphorous (P) transport and retention in the reaches, and the main controlling processes of the P retention in the reach sediments. 5. 10. Simulating the palaeorecord of northern European lakes using a coupled lake-catchment model

    Författare :Jüri Vassiljev; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; northern Europe; catchment geometry; Holocene; overflow lakes; climate change; Water- and energy-balance modelling; lake-level changes; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : A coupled lake-catchment model was developed to examine the controls on lake-level changes in currently overflowing lakes during Holocene. The lake energy-balance is simulated as the one-dimensional vertical heat transfer by eddy diffusion and convective mixing. LÄS MER
