31. The role of autophagy in cartilage physiology and metabolism : implications for growth and ageing
Sammanfattning : Cartilage is the main constituent of the embryonic skeleton. At the ends of long bones cartilage forms a growth plate consisting of chondrocytes in distinct stages of differentiation and arranged into three zones. These chondrocytes mediate linear bone growth through synchronized proliferation, differentiation, and production of matrix. LÄS MER
32. Roles of Myc and Mad in cell cycle and apoptosis
Sammanfattning : The Myc network proteins are key mediators in regulation of cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. They are basic region hehx-loop-helix/leucine zipper (bHLH/Zip) transcription factors that require hetero-dimerization with Max for specific DNA binding Mad family members are expressed primarily in differentiated tissues where they recruit histone deacetylase complexes via the mSin3 interaction domain (SID) to repress transcription of target genes and prevent cell growth In contrast, members of the Myc family activate target gene transcription by recruitment of histone acetyltransferases to their transcriptional activation domain (TAD), inducing proliferation and S phase entry. 33. Steroids and steroid-metabolizing enzymes in the nervous system : Special focus on cell survival and sex hormone synthesis
Sammanfattning : Some steroids in the brain and peripheral nervous system have been shown to have neuroprotective effects but the knowledge is limited. The present study examines the effects of steroids including oxysterols, vitamin D and vitamin D analogs on cell viability/growth and steroidogenesis in the nervous system. LÄS MER
34. Angiostatic mechanisms of endogenous angiogenesis inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the process of sprouting of new capillaries from the existing blood vessels, is essential for tumor growth and metastasis. Angiostatin was discovered as the first specific endogenous angiogenesis inhibitor nearly 10 years ago. The structure of angiostatin consists of the first three/four kringle (K1-3/K1-4) domains of plasminogen. LÄS MER
35. Orexin Receptors in Recombinant CHO Cells : Signaling to Short- and Long-Term Cell Responses
Sammanfattning : Recently discovered neuropeptides orexins (orexin-A and -B) act as endogenous ligands for G-protein-coupled receptors called OX1 and OX2 receptors. Our previous studies have established model systems for investigation of the pharmacology and signaling of these receptors in recombinant CHO cells. LÄS MER
