26. Modulation of cytochrome c release by mitochondrial redox status and caspase-2
Sammanfattning : The release of cytochrome c is an important event during apoptosis, induced by diverse stimuli. Our laboratory has previously proposed that cytochrome c release occurs via a two-step process, involving the detachment of the hemoprotein from its binding to the inner mitochondrial membrane, followed by its release into the cytosol through pores in the outer mitochondrial membrane - an event that is usually triggered by proapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins, such as Bid, Bax and Bak. 27. Apoptosis and tumor cell death pathways in response to HAMLET
Sammanfattning : HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells) is a molecular complex of alpha-lactalbumin and oleic acid, that induces programmed cells death in tumor cells but leaves healthy differentiated cells unaffected. It has a broad anti-tumor activity as more than 40 cell lines from different origin are sensitive. LÄS MER
28. Selective Retention of β-Carbolines and 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene in the Brain : Role of Neuromelanin and Cytochrome P450 for Toxicity
Sammanfattning : The ß-carbolines norharman and harman structurally resemble the synthetic compound 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) that is known for its ability to damage neuromelanin-containing dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra and thereby induce parkinsonism. MPTP is, however, not normally present in the environment whereas the ß-carbolines are present in cooked food and tobacco smoke. LÄS MER
29. On the Role of Polyamines in Apoptosis
Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is a kind of death that is best described as cellular suicide and it is important for normal tissue homeostasis. The process can be induced by a number of different stimuli and the dying cell goes through a defined pathway terminating in typical biochemical and morphological alterations of the cell. LÄS MER
30. Evaluation of neurotoxic properties of gliotoxin
Sammanfattning : The occurrence of mould in food and animal feed is a severe problem due to the secondary metabolites, called mycotoxins, which can possess toxic activity. Aspergillus fumigatus is a common fungus found in improperly stored animal feed and the abundance of spores of the fungus is frequently spread into the air. LÄS MER
