  1. 26. Modulation of cytochrome c release by mitochondrial redox status and caspase-2

    Författare :Mari Enoksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; cytochrome c release; mitochondria; Glutaredoxin; glutathione;

    Sammanfattning : The release of cytochrome c is an important event during apoptosis, induced by diverse stimuli. Our laboratory has previously proposed that cytochrome c release occurs via a two-step process, involving the detachment of the hemoprotein from its binding to the inner mitochondrial membrane, followed by its release into the cytosol through pores in the outer mitochondrial membrane - an event that is usually triggered by proapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins, such as Bid, Bax and Bak. 2. 27. Apoptosis and tumor cell death pathways in response to HAMLET

    Författare :Oskar Hallgren; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; Klinisk biologi; apoptosis; autophagy; alpha-lactalbumin; Clinical biology; programmed cell death; HAMLET; cell cycle;

    Sammanfattning : HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells) is a molecular complex of alpha-lactalbumin and oleic acid, that induces programmed cells death in tumor cells but leaves healthy differentiated cells unaffected. It has a broad anti-tumor activity as more than 40 cell lines from different origin are sensitive. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Selective Retention of β-Carbolines and 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene in the Brain : Role of Neuromelanin and Cytochrome P450 for Toxicity

    Författare :Anna Östergren; Eva Brittebo; Nils Gunnar Lindquist; Anne-Lie Svensson; Hans Tjälve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; β-carboline; neuromelanin; norharman; harman; parkinsonism; Parkinson s disease; motoric impairment; behaviour; glia cells; substantia nigra; dopamine melanin; PC12 cells; ER stress; grp78; hsp90; cytochrome P450; CYP1A1; CYP1B1; blood-brain interfaces; 7; 12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon; endothelial cell; smooth muscle cell; bioactivation; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ß-carbolines norharman and harman structurally resemble the synthetic compound 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) that is known for its ability to damage neuromelanin-containing dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra and thereby induce parkinsonism. MPTP is, however, not normally present in the environment whereas the ß-carbolines are present in cooked food and tobacco smoke. LÄS MER

  4. 29. On the Role of Polyamines in Apoptosis

    Författare :Cecilia Hegardt; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SSAT; DENSPM; spermine; polyamines; mitochondrial membrane potential; cytochrome c; caspase; flow cytometry; Jurkat cells; mouse thymocytes; thymus in vivo; programmed cell death; Dexamethasone-induced apoptosis; Fas-induced apoptosis; AdoMetDC; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is a kind of death that is best described as cellular suicide and it is important for normal tissue homeostasis. The process can be induced by a number of different stimuli and the dying cell goes through a defined pathway terminating in typical biochemical and morphological alterations of the cell. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Evaluation of neurotoxic properties of gliotoxin

    Författare :Viktoria Axelsson; Anna Forsby; Marion Ehrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycotoxin; gliotoxin; A. fumigatus; cytotoxicity; neurotoxicity; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence of mould in food and animal feed is a severe problem due to the secondary metabolites, called mycotoxins, which can possess toxic activity. Aspergillus fumigatus is a common fungus found in improperly stored animal feed and the abundance of spores of the fungus is frequently spread into the air. LÄS MER
