  1. 1. DNA damage-induced cell death : the role of caspase-2

    Författare :Helin Vakifahmetoglu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; caspase-2; DNA damage; mitotic catastrophe; p53;

    Sammanfattning : Activation of a family of cysteine proteases, called caspases, is an important event during apoptosis. In comparison to other caspases, less is known about regulatory functions of caspase-2. Previous studies from our group established caspase-2 as an essential apical regulator of apoptosis triggered by DNA damage. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evidence by interaction : a new role of caspase-2

    Författare :Jeremy Forsberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Caspase-2 is the best conserved member of the caspase family. Although being known to mediate cell death following DNA damage, many studies have implicated that this protease regulates a variety of cellular processes. Despite this, few well-defined and mechanistically explained functions of caspase-2 has been described. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic studies of neuroblastoma with emphasis on the apoptotic pathway

    Författare :Frida Abel; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :child; cancer; neuroectodermal; neural crest; loss of heterozygosity; LOH; bcl-2; mcl-1; apaf-1; caspase-2; caspase-3; caspase-9; PIN; DLC-1; caspase-2;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The objective of this thesis was to find genes and chromosomal regions involved in neuroblastoma (NB) tumor progression. NB is a childhood tumor of the sympathetic nervous system that generally occurs spontaneously. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modulation of cytochrome c release by mitochondrial redox status and caspase-2

    Författare :Mari Enoksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; cytochrome c release; mitochondria; Glutaredoxin; glutathione;

    Sammanfattning : The release of cytochrome c is an important event during apoptosis, induced by diverse stimuli. Our laboratory has previously proposed that cytochrome c release occurs via a two-step process, involving the detachment of the hemoprotein from its binding to the inner mitochondrial membrane, followed by its release into the cytosol through pores in the outer mitochondrial membrane - an event that is usually triggered by proapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins, such as Bid, Bax and Bak. 5. 5. Apoptotic mechanisms in the neonatal brain following hypoxia-ischemia

    Författare :Ylva Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypoxia-ischemia brain caspase-2 cyclophilin D MLK neonatal.;

    Sammanfattning : Neonatal encephalopathy is often perinatally acquired and caused by hypoxia-ischemia (HI). Brain injury develops with a delay, over 12-48 hours, after the insult. Hypothermia, an established neuroprotective treatment, saves 1 infant in 9 from neurological deficits suggesting that there is room for further improvement. LÄS MER
