    Sammanfattning : Glucosamine (GlcN) and glucosamine sulfate (GS) have been used to treat the patients with osteoarthritis(OA) as a disease-modifying agent. Previousin vitro studies have focused on the effects of GlcN or GSon cartilage metabolism, whereas in vivo studies have investigated their potential for the treatment of OA. LÄS MER

    Författare :Thomas Engstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; cartilage; bone; TGF-beta; BMP; noggin; gene therapy; gene targeting; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cartilage functions as a scaffold for bone formation during development. This process, endochondral ossification, is regulated by systemic hormones and local growth factors. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cartilage proteins and their arthritogenic properties in arthritis

    Författare :Stefan Carlsén; Immunologi; []

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the role of cartilage proteins and their potential as antigen and availability to the immune system in arthritis were investigated. Six papers are included; where four present new animal models for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), one shows how genetic disorders in cartilage may affect arthritis and the last how posttranslational modification of collagen type II (CII) affects tolerance. 4. 4. Cartilage homeostasis: Modulation of cells and extracelllar matrix assembly

    Författare :Anna Johnson; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; COMP; Perlecan; chondroadherin; cartilage; ECM; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : The cartilage extracellular matrix consists of the collagen network which enmeshes the large aggregating proteoglycan, aggrecan. Accessory molecules regulate the formation and maintenance of these structures. This thesis studies aspects of cartilage assembly during development and its degradation in disease, focusing on the collagen network. LÄS MER
