  1. 1. Cartilage homeostasis: Modulation of cells and extracelllar matrix assembly

    Författare :Anna Johnson; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; COMP; Perlecan; chondroadherin; cartilage; ECM; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : The cartilage extracellular matrix consists of the collagen network which enmeshes the large aggregating proteoglycan, aggrecan. Accessory molecules regulate the formation and maintenance of these structures. This thesis studies aspects of cartilage assembly during development and its degradation in disease, focusing on the collagen network. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies on chondroadherin-an extracellular matrix leucine-rich repeat protein

    Författare :Christina Wenglén; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology; COMP; SLRP; ECM; collagen; cartilage; chondroadherin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes chondroadherin, one of the leucine-rich repeat proteins in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of cartilage. Chondroadherin defines a subgroup of its own by not having an N-terminal extension, having a different cysteine pattern and by being devoid of carbohydrate substitutions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cartilage proteins and their arthritogenic properties in arthritis

    Författare :Stefan Carlsén; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; HLA-DR4; tolerance; COMP; CXI; CIX; arthritis; Cartilage; collagen;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the role of cartilage proteins and their potential as antigen and availability to the immune system in arthritis were investigated. Six papers are included; where four present new animal models for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), one shows how genetic disorders in cartilage may affect arthritis and the last how posttranslational modification of collagen type II (CII) affects tolerance. 4. 4. Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein (COMP). Functions in collagen binding and assembly

    Författare :Krisztina Rosenberg; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Connective tissues contain a prominent extracellular matrix that provides mechanical and physical properties. This extracellular matrix contains as a major constituent a network of collagen fibres. These are composed of collagen fibrils, which in turn are assembled from many collagen molecules aligned parallel to each other. Several proteins, e. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the principles of biolubrication, focusing on synergistic effects between biolubricants. To this end surface force and friction measurements were carried out by means of Atomic Force Microscopy, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic model surfaces in salt solutions of high ionic strength (≈ 150 mM) in presence of different biolubricants.
