1. Clinical and tumour biology studies of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma : with emphasis on comorbidity, toxicity and outcome
Sammanfattning : Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is curable in around 70% when treated with standard immunochemotherapy R- CHOP (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone). Treatment related toxicity affecting survivors is a clinical problem as well as comorbidities influencing the possibility to give adequate treatment. LÄS MER
2. Studies on Cytotoxic and Neutrophil Challenging Polypeptides and Cardiac Glycosides of Plant Origin
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the isolation and characterisation (biological and chemical) of polypeptides from plants. A fractionation protocol was developed and applied on 100 plant materials with the aim of isolating highly purified polypeptide fractions from small amounts of plant materials. LÄS MER
3. Teratogenicity as a consequence of drug-induced embryonic cardiac arrhythmia : Common mechanism for almokalant, sotalol, cisapride, and phenytoin via inhibition of IKr
Sammanfattning : During the last years, drugs that prolong the repolarisation phase of the myocardial action potential, due to inhibition of the rapid component of the delayed-rectifying potassium channel (IKr) have been in focus. In addition to arrhythmogenic potential, selective Ikr-blockers have also been shown to be embryotoxic and teratogenic in animal studies. LÄS MER
4. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 5. Experimental Studies of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds in Vascular Cells and Tissues
Sammanfattning : Epidemiological evidence suggest that exposure to endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) is a risk factor for diseases that involves the cardiovascular system but we know little about the mechanisms whereby these compounds can cause injury in the vasculature. The aim of this thesis was to characterize the effects and mechanisms of some EDCs in vascular cells and highly vascularized tissues. LÄS MER
