  1. 11. Minimally invasive cardiorespiratory monitoring and lung recruitment manoeuvres. Studies in animals and humans

    Författare :Helena Odenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Monitoring; cardiac output; lung volume; lung recruitment manoeuvre; regional ventilation; acute lung injury; bronchoalveolar lavage; endotoxin; cardiac tamponade;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The maintenance of adequate oxygen delivery is essential to preserve organ function. The circulatory and respiratory systems interact closely to accomplish this. Optimising the function of these systems is of fundamental importance in critically ill patients. This requires adequate monitoring techniques. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation

    Författare :Martin Fredholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; strain echocardiography; right heart catheterization; cardiac surgery; heart failure; levosimendan; milrinone; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; systole; diastole; preload; afterload; pacing; longitudinal function; ventricular dimensions; ventricular interdependence;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 3. 13. Cardiac function and long-term volume load : Physiological investigations in endurance athletes and in patients operated on for aortic regurgitation

    Författare :Kristofer Hedman; Eva Nylander; Éva Tamás; Lars Brudin; Mats Börjesson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims. The heart is a remarkably adaptable organ, continuously changing its output to match metabolic demands and haemodynamic load. But also in long-term settings, such as in chronic or repeated volume load, there are changes in cardiac dimensions and mass termed cardiac hypertrophy. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Stroke during cardiac surgery : risk factors, mechanisms and survival effects

    Författare :Magnus Hedberg; Karl Gunnar Engström; Patrik Boivie; Jan van der Linden; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stroke; cardiac surgery; adult; risk factors; mortality; embolism; aortic cross-clamp; aortic cannulation; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Neurological complications and stroke in association with cardiac surgery is a serious problem. The stroke event can occur during surgery (early stroke) or in the postoperative period with a symptom free interval (delayed stroke). LÄS MER

  5. 15. Lung Emphysema & Cardiac Function

    Författare :Kirsten Jörgensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :emphysema; hemodynamics; ventricular end-diastolic volumes; lung volume reduction; ventricular function; transoesophageal echocardiography; magnetic resonance imaging; diastole; simendan; hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with severe lung emphysema have poor quality of life because of impaired lung function and reduced exercise tolerance. Concomitant heart disease in severe emphysema is well recognised. The prevailing view is that mainly the right side of the heart is involved, while the issue of left ventricular (LV) involvement is less studied. LÄS MER
