  1. 1. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue

    Författare :C. Mikael Mattsson; Björn Ekblom; Keith P George; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular drift; cardiac fatigue; adventure race; cardiac biomarkers; cardoac function; exercise echocardiography; Physiology; Fysiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Sports; Idrott; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e. 2. 2. Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Optimization : Comparison and Evaluation of Non-invasive Methods

    Författare :Elena Sciaraffia; Carina Blomström Lundqvist; Giuseppe Boriani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac resynchronization therapy; device optimization; left ventricular contractility; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis was to investigate new cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization techniques and to assess their reliability when compared to invasive measurements of left ventricular contractility (LV dP/dtmax).We first assessed whether cardiac output (CO) measured by trans-thoracic impedance cardiography could correctly identify the optimal interventricular (VV) pacing interval while using invasive measurements of LV dP/dtmax as reference. 3. 3. Performance of a revised capnodynamic method for cardiac output monitoring

    Författare :Thorir Sigmundsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiac output;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac output (CO) monitoring is ideal for guiding fluid, vasopressor and inotropic therapy for sufficient oxygen delivery and may improve outcome in high risk surgery. In this context, many minimally-and non-invasive methods have emerged during recent years, however, they appear less reliable when compared to the thermodilution methods during rapid changes in vascular volume and resistance, a common feature during major surgery. 5. 5. Cardiorespiratory function of euryhaline teleosts - Regulatory mechanisms, effects of warming and costs of osmoregulation

    Författare :Daniel Morgenroth; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; salinity; temperature; cardiac; vascular; gastrointestinal; acclimation; growth;

    Sammanfattning : Teleost fishes have colonized almost every aquatic habitat on earth and exhibit adaptations that allow them to thrive in environments with very diverse physico-chemical properties. One fundamental environmental variable in aquatic ecosystems is salinity, as most fish species are only able to tolerate a narrow range of salinities. LÄS MER
