  1. 1. Minimally invasive cardiorespiratory monitoring and lung recruitment manoeuvres. Studies in animals and humans

    Författare :Helena Odenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Monitoring; cardiac output; lung volume; lung recruitment manoeuvre; regional ventilation; acute lung injury; bronchoalveolar lavage; endotoxin; cardiac tamponade;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The maintenance of adequate oxygen delivery is essential to preserve organ function. The circulatory and respiratory systems interact closely to accomplish this. Optimising the function of these systems is of fundamental importance in critically ill patients. This requires adequate monitoring techniques. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Performance of a revised capnodynamic method for cardiac output monitoring

    Författare :Thorir Sigmundsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiac output;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac output (CO) monitoring is ideal for guiding fluid, vasopressor and inotropic therapy for sufficient oxygen delivery and may improve outcome in high risk surgery. In this context, many minimally-and non-invasive methods have emerged during recent years, however, they appear less reliable when compared to the thermodilution methods during rapid changes in vascular volume and resistance, a common feature during major surgery. 4. 4. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue

    Författare :C. Mikael Mattsson; Björn Ekblom; Keith P George; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular drift; cardiac fatigue; adventure race; cardiac biomarkers; cardoac function; exercise echocardiography; Physiology; Fysiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Sports; Idrott; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e. 5. 5. Aspects of pediatric hemodynamics. A study of young children undergoing corrective heart surgery

    Författare :Theódór Sigurdsson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac output; Heart surgery; Hemodynamics; Intracardiac shunt; Volume estimation; Young children;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractBackground: Assessing critically ill patients is demanding because their clinical signs are not always easy to interpret. This is particularly true for pediatric patients, due to their small size and robust circulatory compensatorymechanism. LÄS MER
