21. Climate change impacts on production and dynamics of fish populations
Sammanfattning : Ongoing climate change is predicted to increase water temperatures and export of terrestrial dissolved matter (TDOM) to aquatic ecosystems influencing ecosystem productivity, food web dynamics and production of top consumers. Ecosystem productivity is mainly determined by the rates of primary production (GPP) in turn controlled by nutrients, light availability and temperature, while temperature alone affect vital rates like consumption and metabolic rates and maintenance requirements of consumers. 22. Urea and Non-Protein Nitrogen Metabolism in Infants : With Special Reference to the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Sammanfattning : A large amount of non-protein nitrogen, in the form of urea and ammonium, is present in human breastmilk; however its physiological role in the infant is as yet not fully understood. It has been hypothesized that an insufficient enteric metabolism of urea could play a role in the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). LÄS MER
23. Novel approaches in modeling of soil carbon : Upscaling theories and energetics
Sammanfattning : Soils contain more carbon (C) than terrestrial (above ground) and atmospheric carbon combined. Mismanagement of soil C could lead to increased greenhouse gas emissions, whereas practices leading to increased C storage would help mitigate climate change while improving soil fertility and ecological functions. 24. Nitrogen and Redox Metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : Anaerobic conversion of glucose to ethanol by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been studied. Glycerol is formed as a by-product in order to maintain the overall redox balance. LÄS MER
25. Systems Biology of Yeast Lipid Metabolism
Sammanfattning : Lipid metabolism plays an important role in the development of many different life-style related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, and understanding the molecular mechanisms behind regulation of lipid biosynthesis and degradation may lead to development of new therapies. In this project we undertook a global study of lipid metabolism in the eukaryotic model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LÄS MER
