  1. 11. Soil-living archaea: Influence of pH, carbon and nitrogen on their abundance and activity

    Författare :Anna Sterngren; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Archaea; ammonia-oxidizing archaea; soil; AOA; AOB; root exudates; gross nitrification; qPCR; pH; carbon cycle; nitrogen cycle;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade it has been discovered that around 2% of the soil-living prokaryotes belong to the domain Archaea. In many soils the most abundant archaeal group is the ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) that, in addition to ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), preform the first and rate-limiting step in the nitrification process. 2. 12. Life-Cycle Energy and Carbon Implications of Wood-Based Products and Construction

    Författare :Roger Sathre; Leif Gustavsson; Birger Solberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; forest products; climate change mitigation; carbon balance; energy; life cycle; wood; land use; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Forests can be an important element of an overall strategy to limit the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) that contributes to climate change. As an integral part of the global carbon cycle, forests remove CO2 from the atmosphere as they grow, and accumulate carbon in tree biomass. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Life cycle navigation through future energy carriers and propulsion options for the energy transition in shipping

    Författare :Fayas Malik Kanchiralla; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; environmental impact; life cycle costing; battery electric; fuel cells; electro-fuel; technical feasibility; economic impact; hydrogen; life cycle assessment; carbon capture; marine fuel; engines; ammonia; carbon abatement cost; shipping; methanol;

    Sammanfattning : The shipping industry's heavy reliance on fossil fuels has a detrimental effect on the global climate, human health, and the natural environment. The shipping sector now relies on the use of cheap and energy-dense heavy fuel oil and is perceived as ‘difficult-to-decarbonize’. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Conceptual Thermodynamic Cycle and Aerodynamic Gas Turbine Design - on an Oxy-fuel Combined Cycle

    Författare :ADRIAN NILSSON DAHLQVIST; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gas turbine; combined cycle; conceptual design; aerodynamic; mid-span design; through-flow design; oxy-fuel; SCOC-CC; OCC; gas turbine; Combined cycle; conceptual design; aerodynamic; mid-span design; Through-flow design; Oxy-fuel; SCOC-CC; OCC;

    Sammanfattning : The world is today facing a serious problem with global warming, which is heading towards an appallingly high temperature level. The greater part of the overall climate science community agree that global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect, which depends largely on emitted CO2 emissions from the combustion of fossil fuel. 5. 15. Green consumption energy use and carbon dioxide emission

    Författare :Eva Alfredsson; Einar Holm; Neil Swan; Kerstin Westin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social and economic geography; Energy consumption; Carbon dioxide emission; Energy intensity; Carbon intensity; Life cycle assessment; Consumption patterns; Lifestyles; Systems analysis; Microsimulation modelling; Demography; Sustainability; Rebound effects; Substitution effects; Kulturgeografi; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed.
