  1. 1. Carbon Dioxide in Inland Waters : Drivers and Mechanisms Across Spatial and Temporal Scales

    Författare :Anna Cecilia Nydahl; Gesa A. Weyhenmeyer; Marguerite Xenopoulos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon dioxide; dissolved organic carbon; inland water; lake; stream; groundwater; mesocosm; carbonate system; carbon; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inland waters are an essential component of the global carbon cycle as they are very active sites for carbon transformation processes. Much of this carbon is transformed into the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) and emitted into the atmosphere. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Beyond carbon-limitation : A re-evaluation of the ecological role of photorespiration and direct oxygen photoreduction in seagrasses

    Författare :Pimchanok Buapet; Mats Björk; Ilana Berman-Frank; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon limitation; Chlorophyll fluorescence; Electron transport rate; Irradiance; Mehler reaction; Non-photochemical quenching; Photorespiration; Photosynthetic activity; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrasses living in shallow coastal waters are regularly subjected to changes in environmental conditions including the two essential factors for photosynthesis: dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and irradiance. This thesis focuses on the photosynthetic responses of seagrasses to carbon limitation induced by community metabolism and/or high light intensities. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Carbon Nitride : Characterization and Protein Interactions

    Författare :Torun Berlind; Hans Arwin; Pentti Tengvall; Hans Hultman; Thomas E. Tiwald; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns synthesis and characterization of carbon-based materials and theinvestigation of the possible use, of a selection of these materials, in biomedicalapplications. Protein adsorption and blood plasma tests were used for this purposeutilizing a surface sensitive technique called spectroscopic ellipsometry. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Heteroatom-doped porous carbon materials derived from poly(ionic liquid)s and their composites for battery and catalytic applications

    Författare :Sadaf Saeedi Garakani; Jiayin Yuan; Diego Cazorla-Amorós; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heteroatom doped carbon; Porous carbon membrane; Poly ionic liquid -derived carbon; Wood-derived carbon; Catalytic activity; Peroxidase-like activity; lithium sulfur battery; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In the past decade, there has been significant interest in heteroatom-doped porous carbons, driven by the distinctive and adjustable physical and chemical properties that they exhibit across scales, from the atomic to the macroscopic level. Particularly, attributes such as conductivity, electron density, high specific surface area, hierarchical pore structure, and oxidation resistance offer a wide range of characteristics for diverse applications. 5. 5. Permafrost carbon in a changing Arctic : On periglacial landscape dynamics, organic matter characteristics, and the stability of a globally significant carbon pool

    Författare :Niels Weiss; Peter Kuhry; Duane Froese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Permafrost; Carbon; Climate; Arctic; Soil; Organic Matter; Cryosphere; Geomorphology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Organic matter (OM) in arctic permafrost ground contains about twice as much carbon (C) as is currently present in the atmosphere. Climate change is particularly strong in the Arctic, and could cause a considerable part of the OM in permafrost to thaw out, decompose, and be released as greenhouse gases; further enhancing global warming.
