  1. 1. The human diving response : effects of temperature and training

    Författare :Erika Schagatay; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Djurfysiologi; pig; human; training; breath-holding time; breaking point; cold-receptors; arterial blood; vasoconstriction; bradycardia; diving reflex; diving response; Breath-hold diving; Animal physiology; simulated diving; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; Sports; Idrott; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to elucidate the cardiovascular response associated with breath-hold diving, especially the effects of temperature in its elicitation and the effects of different types of training on the human diving response (DR) and breath-holding time (BHT), and to evaluate the human DR in a mammalian perspective. A model for simulated diving by apnea and facial immersion in cold water was developed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure

    Författare :Roger Kölegård; Ola Eiken; Toste Länne; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arterial stiffness; venous distensibility; venous flow characteristics; bedrest; pressure training; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. 3. 3. Cross transfer effects after unilateral muscle overuse : an experimental animal study about alterations in the morphology and the tachykinin system of muscles

    Författare :Yafeng Song; Per Stål; Sture Forsgren; Fawzi Kadi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triceps surae; overuse; contralateral; muscle; muscle fiber; MyHC; capillary; tachykinin; substance P; NK-1R; inflammation; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Unilateral exercise can produce certain contralateral strength effects. Deleterious events can be cross-transferred as well, as illustrated by a strict symmetry in some chronic inflammatory diseases. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Properties of the endothelial cells and the glomerular barrier

    Författare :Jenny Sörensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Capillary permeability; kidney glomerulus physiology; isolated perfused kidney; endothelium; orosomucoid; charge; horseradish peroxidase; inflammation; proteoglycan; cAMP.;

    Sammanfattning : The kidneys are vital organs that filter plasma to produce 180 liters of primary urine per day. Only 1% of this volume is excreted and the rest is reabsorbed. Naturally, such huge amounts of fluid must be well controlled to maintain the homeostasis, which is a prerequisite for life. LÄS MER
