16. Interactions of cellulose and model surfaces
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is fundamental surface force and friction studies of silica and cellulose surfaces, performed mainly with the atomic force microscope (AFM). The normal interactions between model cellulose surfaces have been found to consist of a longer range double layer force with a short range steric interaction, the nature of which is extensively discussed. 17. Moisture transport processes in Scots pine - Anomalous capillary suction. Nonisothermal diffusion
Sammanfattning : Moisture transport processes in wood have become increasingly important with the growing use of wood as construction material. This thesis deals with two key processes: capillary suction and nonisothermal diffusion. In the study on capillary suction, several methods were used. LÄS MER
18. Enantiomeric separations by capillary electrophoresis in pharmaceutical analysis
Sammanfattning : The chiral capillary electrophoresis mechanism is studied by evaluating the enantiomeric separations of a series of local anaesthetic analogues, the sixteen different optical isomers of a tetrapeptide and a series of glycyl, alanyl and leucyl dipeptides. The usefulness of mobility difference plots is appraised and important method parameters, such as the selection of the chiral selector, the chiral selector concentration, the chiral selector purity, the pH and the composition of the electrophoresis solution, are identified and discussed, bearing method robustness in mind. 19. Developing a Porcine Model to Study the Glymphatic System
Sammanfattning : The glymphatic system is a brain-wide solute clearance system that has developed in the brain to clear metabolic waste during sleep. This clearance is mediated by advective fluxes of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) along perivascular spaces (PVS) and through the brain. LÄS MER
20. Interactions between non-polar surfaces in water: Fokus on talc, pitch and surface roughness effects
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the interactions between talc mineral and surfaces, liquids and chemicals relevant for industrial applications, such as pulp and paper. Talc is used in the pulp and paper industry as a filler pigment, in control of pitch (lipophilic extractives) deposits and as a coating pigment. LÄS MER
