1. Cancer Risk Assessment of Glycidol : Evaluation of a Multiplicative Risk Model for Genotoxic Compounds
Sammanfattning : Humans are exposed to chemical compounds in everyday life, both from the environment and from endogenous processes. Some compounds constitute a risk for cancer development. One such compound is glycidol, which is genotoxic and an animal carcinogen. It is the model compound of this work, partly due to its presence in food. LÄS MER
2. Thyroid cancer : studies on etiology and prognosis
Sammanfattning : Thyroid cancer constitutes about 1% of all malignant tumours and the incidence is increasing in Sweden. It is rare in children before the age of 10. During puberty the female to male ratio increases to be two to three times more common in females. The ratio remains constant until menopause and thereafter declines. LÄS MER
3. The extent of gynaecological cancer : Evaluation, outcome and quality of life
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to enhance treatment planning for gynaecological cancer patients and identify women that are more likely to have impaired quality of life (QoL) after treatment. In a retrospective cohort study on ovarian cancer, the peritoneal cancer index (PCI) was examined in relation to incomplete cytoreductive surgeries (CRS) and surgical complications (n=167). LÄS MER
4. Prognosis, Prediction and Risk Assessment in the Prevention and Treatment of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Sammanfattning : Background: Lung cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer. Smoking causes roughly 90% of lung cancer cases. Concurrent chemoradiation therapy is the standard of care for stage IIIb patients with performance status (PS) 0-1. A less toxic approach is warranted for less fit patients. LÄS MER
5. Cervical and vaginal cancer - aspects on risk factors, prevention and treatment
Sammanfattning : Background: Participation in screening is associated with a major risk reduction in cervical cancer, but there is a lack of knowledge on whether the cost to the individual has an effect on the participation rate. Women with abnormal findings at screenings are referred for colposcopy. LÄS MER
