  1. 1. Dissecting the Microenvironment of Urothelial Bladder Cancer : Therapy, Modelling and Biomarkers

    Författare :Iliana Kyriaki Kerzeli; Sara Mangsbo; Tania de Gruijl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immuno-oncology; Tumor immunology; MALT1 inhibition; Urothelial bladder cancer; Tumor microenvironment; Immunologi; Immunology; Oncology; Onkologi; Urologi; Urology;

    Sammanfattning : The complexity of the tumor microenvironment (TME) impacts therapy responses and the survival of cancer patients. The scope of this thesis is to study the effects of immune modulation on tumor-infiltrating leukocytes, and to explore the TME of urothelial cancer to provide the research society with new knowledge and potential therapeutic targets. 2. 2. The breast cancer microenvironment and cancer cell secretion - specific effects on cancer progression and subtypes of cancer cells

    Författare :Emma Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; cancer microenvironment; secretion; hypoxia;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the cancer form responsible for the most cancer-related deaths among women worldwide, and novel targeted therapies are highly needed. The tumor microenvironment consists of several components, including different cell types, extracellular matrix, oxygen and nutrient gradients and soluble factors that plays a key role in cancer progression. 3. 3. Patient-derived scaffolds as a 3D model for breast cancer

    Författare :Anna Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; patient-derived scaffolds; cancer microenvironment; 3D model; cancer stem cells; drug testing;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common cancer form in women worldwide. Many patients will have recurrent disease and more efficient targeted therapies are needed. The tumor microenvironment is a heterogenous complex mix of cells and components influencing critical cancer processes including progression, signaling and invasion. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The impact of the progranulin-sortilin axis on breast cancer stem cell activity and patient outcome

    Författare :Karoline Berger; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; biomarker; cancer stem cells; microenvironment; progranulin; sortilin; interleukin-6; targeted therapy; prognostic;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Still today, despite current breast cancer therapies, many patients experience treatment resistance and relapse, which are believed to be due to failure in targeting treatment-resistant cancer stem cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Growth factor signaling in the breast tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Matteo Bocci; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; Tumor microenvironment; Angiogenesis; Cancer-associated fibroblasts; PDGF-C; ALK1;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer represents a collection of malignancies characterized by an aberrant expansion of cells. This unrestrained growth is the result of the acquisition of several pro-survival features and the evasion of cellular fail-safe mechanisms, collectively known as the hallmarks of cancer. LÄS MER
