11. Anticoagulant protein C--structural and functional studies
Sammanfattning : Anticoagulant protein C is a vitamin K-dependent factor circulating in plasma as a zymogen of a serine protease. It is converted to its active form (APC) by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on the surface of endothelial cells. APC inhibits the generation of thrombin by selective proteolytic inactivation procoagulant factors Va and VIIIa. LÄS MER
12. The plant respiratory chain: Redox responses and catalytic definition of alternative pathways
Sammanfattning : The respiratory chain of plants contains both proton-pumping enzymes that conserve energy and non-proton-pumping alternative enzymes that bypass the sites of energy conservation. In addition to the proton-pumping complex I, plant mitochondria contain alternative type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, which allow oxidation of NADH and NADPH from the matrix and the cytosol. LÄS MER
13. Biomarkers in mid-trimester amniotic fluid in relation to gestational duration and spontaneous preterm delivery
Sammanfattning : Background: The biological mechanisms and physiological pathways of pregnancy maintenance and timing of delivery are complex and multifactorial. Pregnancy clocks, partly controlled by timing mechanisms linked to fetal development, which regulate the onset of labor has previously been described. LÄS MER
14. Calcium binding protein immunoreactivity in the central auditory system and correlations with the auditory periphery : the effects of noise and aging in mice
Sammanfattning : This study has examined how calcium binding protein immunoreactivity is modulated in the cochlear nucleus and the inferior colliculus after noise exposure and during aging in mice. The effect of noise exposure on calbindin-D28k (calbindin) and parvalbumin immunoreactivity in the dorsal and posteroventral cochlear nucleus (DCN and PVCN) and inferior colliculus (IC) was studied in CBA/CBA mice by using two-dimensional quantification. 15. Engineering alternative scaffold proteins for conditional targeting
Sammanfattning : Engineering naturally occurring proteins enables us to customize affinity domains according to our specific needs, tailoring them to become an important tool in a wide array of applications limited merely by our creativity. One of nature’s ways to regulate protein activity is by creating a functional change through alteration of a protein’s tertiary structure upon interaction with metal ions. LÄS MER
