  1. 1. Calcium and Phospholipases in Orexin Receptor Signaling

    Författare :Lisa Johansson; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Christopher S. Leonard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; orexin; receptor; calcium; phospholipase; cell signaling; GPCR; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptides orexin-A and -B act as endogenous ligands for G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) called OX1 and OX2 receptors. Previous observations have established that orexin receptors have an ability to couple to different G-proteins and signaling pathways and induce Ca2+ elevations via both receptor-operated Ca2+ channels (ROCs) and store-operated Ca2+ channels (SOCs). 2. 2. On the tissue response to hafnium, titanium and thin calcium phosphate coatings

    Författare :Sham Mohammadi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hafnium; titanium; calcium phosphates; hydroxyapatite; implants; bone; soft tissue; histomorphometry;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Titanium (Ti) is the gold standard material for load-bearing implants. Although high success rates have been reported for Ti implants, failures do occur. Alternative materials/surface modifications might further improve the performances of Ti implants, particularly in situations with non-optimal local tissue conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Calcium Phosphate Based Biomaterials for Bone Augmentation

    Författare :Jun Luo; Cecilia Persson; Håkan Engqvist; Marc Bohner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone substitute materials; calcium phosphate cements; apatite; brushite; monetite; setting mechanism; premixed; fibre reinforcement; composite; silk fibroin; mechanical properties; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Sammanfattning : Basic (apatite-based) calcium phosphate cements (CPCs), and acidic (brushite and monetite-based) CPCs are used as bone replacement materials because of their bioactivity, mouldability and ability to harden in place. However, their application is limited by their inherent brittleness and difficulties related to their handling. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bone Regeneration with Cell-free Injectable Scaffolds

    Författare :Gry Hulsart Billström; Sune Larsson; Kenneth B Jonsson; Jöns Hilborn; Håkan Engqvist; Olle Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone tissue engineering; hydrogel; computed tomography; positron emission tomography; large femoral bone defect; rat model; hydrogel; in vivo; osteogenesis; bone regeneration; 3R; single-photon emission computed tomography; bone morphogenetic protein 2; calcium phosphates; injectable; bisphosphonate;

    Sammanfattning : Bone is a remarkable multifunctional tissue with the ability to regenerate and remodel without generating any scar tissue. However, bone loss due to injury or diseases can be a great challenge and affect the patient significantly. Autologous bone grafting is commonly used throughout the world. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Clinical and experimental studies of bone substitutes and dental implants in compromised bone sites

    Författare :Amela Trbakovic; Andreas Thor; Patricia Hedenqvist; Christer Dahlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :clinical follow-up; calcium phosphates; rabbit model; sinus lift; radius model; in vivo; bisphosphonates; narrow diameter implants; dental implants; Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Käkkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: With an ageing population, an increase of more challenging implant treatments is expected. In this thesis, we evaluate the outcome of two faster implant protocols, in patients with compromised alveolar bone. LÄS MER
