  1. 1. Calcium channel activity and force regulation in smooth muscle: Effects of polyamines and growth stimulation

    Författare :Maria Gomez; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; verapamil; tissue culture; portal vein; patch-clamp; calcium; spermidine; spermine; polyamines; excitation-contraction; smooth muscle; calcium channel; ionomycin.; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The initial signal for contraction in smooth muscle is an increase in [Ca2+]i. Ca2+ ions can either enter the cytosol from the extracellular medium or be released from intracellular stores. Voltage-operated Ca2+ channels (VOC) play a dominant role in the activation of smooth muscle contraction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modulation of the calcium-force relationship in smooth muscle by polyamines and metabolic inhibition

    Författare :Karl Swärd; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolic inhibition; polyamines; excitation-contraction coupling; smooth muscle; intracellular calcium; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins. 3. 3. Antiarrhythmic and arrhythmic effects of an Ikr-blocking class III agent. A clinical and electrocardiographic study of almokalant

    Författare :Birgitta Houltz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Almokalant; class III antiarrhythmic agent; potassium channel blocker; atrial fibrillation; sinus rhythm; conversion; electrocardiographic; QT interval prolongation; T wave morphology; prediction; torsades de pointes; proarrhythmia; QT dispersion; ventric;

    Sammanfattning : The interest in class III drugs has increased over the last decades as being potent antiarrhythmic agents in their mode of action by prolongation of repolarization and with no effect on conduction. Class I antiarrhythmic agents have proven effective in conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF), but may cause serious proarrhythmia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the mechanisms and physiological function of somatodendritic dopamine release in substantia nigra

    Författare :Filip Bergquist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Calcium channels; dopamine release; microdialysis; rotarod; SNARE; striatum; substantia nigra;

    Sammanfattning : Somatodendritic release of neurotransmitters is a neuronal function that is poorly understood in comparison with the more abundant terminal release. This study aimed at characterising somatodendritic dopamine release in substantia nigra in terms of release mechanisms and possible physiological function in motor control. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ion channels and intrinsic membrane properties of locomotor network neurons in the lamprey spinal cord

    Författare :Di Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ion channels; calcium activated non-selective cation current ICAN ; L-type LVA calcium channels Cav 1.3 ; calcium channels; calcium imaging; NMDA; postinhibitory rebound PIR ; lamprey; central pattern generator CPG ; locomotion;

    Sammanfattning : NMDA-receptor dependent membrane potential oscillations and postinhibitory rebound are examples of intrinsic membrane properties of many neurons of rhythm-generating networks, and are considered to play major roles in the operation of the spinal locomotor network of the lamprey vertebrate model. A significant feature of many lamprey spinal cord neurons is their ability to generate pacemaker-like membrane potential oscillations in the presence of the glutamate agonist NMDA. LÄS MER
