6. Coffee Consumption in Relation to Osteoporosis and Fractures : Observational Studies in Men and Women
Sammanfattning : During the past decades, the incidence of osteoporotic fractures has increased dramatically in the Western world. Consumption of coffee and intake of caffeine have in some studies been found to be associated with increased risk of osteoporotic fractures, but overall results from previous research are inconsistent. 7. Exploring the Molecular Behavior of Carbohydrates by NMR Spectroscopy : Shapes, motions and interactions
Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are essential biomolecules that decorate cell membranes and proteins in organisms. They are important both as structural elements and as identification markers. Many biological and pathogenic processes rely on the identification of carbohydrates by proteins, thereby making them attractive as molecular blueprints for drugs. LÄS MER
8. Taurine and dopamine-related effects of ethanol. An experimental study in rodents
Sammanfattning : The reinforcing properties of alcohol (ethanol) are associated with activation of the mesolimbic dopamine system and the concomitant increase in dopamine in the nucleus accumbens (nAc). Changes in this system are thought to be a predominant underlying factor in promoting excessive alcohol intake and alcohol use disorder. LÄS MER
9. On the Thermodynamic Solvation of Biomolecules in Solution
Sammanfattning : The topic solvation thermodynamics is an important aspect of chemistry, dealing with the effects introduced by solvents onto solutes. In particular, biological systems are highly heterogeneous in their choice of solvent typically characterized by either being in a polar or non-polar environment. LÄS MER
10. Elimination of caffeine metabolites in man
Sammanfattning : Plasma, saliva and urinary caffeine (CA), paraxanthine (PX), theobromine (TB), theophylline (TP) and their metabolites were, after separation into fractions by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), quantitated by capillary electrophoresis (CE). In healthy adults, 96% of the total amount of excreted compounds derived from CA were dimethylxanthines (DMXs) and metabolites, the remainder 4% being nonmetabolized CA and its non-demethylated urate.
