  1. 21. Metabolic roles of adenosine : studies using genetically modified mice and transfected cells

    Författare :Stina Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; A1 receptor; adipocyte; pancreas; skeletal muscle; GHSR1a; caffeine; metabolism and knock out mouse;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the metabolic roles of adenosine. The endogenous nucleoside adenosine acts by binding to the four adenosine receptors, A1R, A2AR, A2BR and A3R. The A1R is the adenosine receptor that has been proposed to be the one most involved in metabolism. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Striatal adenosine A2A receptors

    Författare :Per Svenningsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :caffeine; adenosine; A2A receptors; dopamine receptors; striatum; basal ganglia; immediate early genes; c-fos; NGFI-A; DARPP-32; in situ hybridization;

    Sammanfattning : The nucleoside adenosine exerts a modulatory action in the central nervous system by activating G-protein coupled receptors. Four such receptors are cloned and pharmacologically characterized: A1, A2A, A2B and A3. Caffeine, the most widely consumed psychostimulant, acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist predominantly on the first two. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Physiology and pathophysiology of central adenosine A1 and A2A receptors

    Författare :Linda Halldner Henriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; A1 receptor; A2A receptor; knock-out mouse; in situ hybridization; receptor autoradiography; sleep; hypoxia-ischemia; behavior; motor activity; caffeine; tolerance;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the individual roles of central adenosine A1 and A2A receptors in the physiological and pathophysiological effects of adenosine. In addition, the characteristics of different adenosine receptor ligands were studied. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Pharmacogenetics of drug metabolizing enzymes with special emphasis on Ethiopians

    Författare :Eleni Aklillu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Drug metabolism; gene duplication; CYP2D6; CYP2C19; CYP2C9; CYP1B1; CYP1A2; genotyping; xanthine oxidase; ultrarapid metabolizers; polymorphism; caffeine; Ets; dietary selection.;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmacogenetics of drug metabolising enzymes has been well studied in Caucasians and Asians, but relatively little in Africans. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the molecular genetics of drug metabolising enzymes, in particular CYP2D6, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, CYP1B1, CYP1A2 and XO, with special emphasis on the Ethiopian population. 5. 25. Spontaneous abortion : risk factors and measurement of exposures

    Författare :Lena George; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Case-control study; caffeine; cotinine; environmental tobacco smoke; epidemiology; fetal karyotype; folate; maternal smoking; pregnancy; repeated spontaneous abortion; risk assessment; smoking cessation; spontaneous abortion; validation study;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objectives of this thesis were to increase the understanding of the etiology of spontaneous abortion and repeated spontaneous abortion, and to evaluate possibilities of exposure assessment during pregnancy. Data from a Swedish population-based case-control study of spontaneous abortion, performed in Uppsala County 1996-98, formed the base for the three first studies of the thesis. LÄS MER
