  1. 16. Constructing a timetable of autumn senescence in aspen

    Författare :Johanna Keskitalo; Stefan Jansson; Howard Thomas; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus tremula; autumn senescence; senescence-associated genes; cellular timetable; transcriptional timetable; cDNA microarrays; EST sequencing; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the development and lifecycle of multicellular organisms, cells have to die, and this occurs by a process called programmed cell death or PCD, which can be separated from necrosis or accidental cell death (Pennell and Lamb, 1997). Senescence is the terminal phase in the development of an organism, organ, tissue or cell, where nutrients are remobilized from the senescing parts of the plant into other parts, and the cells of the senescing organ or tissue undergo PCD if the process is not reversed in time. 2. 17. Effects of polyamine pool manipulation on genes expressed during the cell cycle

    Författare :Pia Berntsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal physiology; cyclin A; ODC; MCF-7; mitotic shake off; DENSPM; CHO; cDNA microarray; cell cycle; spermine; Djurfysiologi; AdoMetDC; 2D gel electrophoresis; polyamines; spermidine; putrescine;

    Sammanfattning : The polyamines - putrescine, spermidine and spermine - are polycations found within cells. They have been shown to be essential for optimal cell proliferation and cell survival. Cells maintain their polyamine levels in a well-regulated system involving biosynthesis, catabolism and uptake/excretion. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Structure and Activity of Circular Plant Proteins : Cytotoxic Effects of Viola Cyclotides

    Författare :Anders Herrmann; Ulf Göransson; Lars Bohlin; Douglas Kinghorn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacognosy; cyclotide; cytotoxic; anti-tumour; macrocyclic; cyclic cystine knot; Alpine violet; Sweet violet; Viola; Violaceae; chemical modifications; structure-activity studies; mass spectroscopy; cDNA clones; Farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : Cyclotides are a family of small and macrocyclic proteins that have been found in Violacaee and Rubiaceae plant species. These proteins contain a cystine knot: two disulfides bonds together with their connecting peptide backbone form an embedded ring which is penetrated by a third disulfide bond. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Monoglyceride Lipase and Hormone-Sensitive Lipase - Molecular and structural aspects

    Författare :Marie Karlsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; genomic organisation; baculovirus-insect cells; catalytic triad; alfa beta hydrolase fold; tissue distribution; cDNA sequence; lipolysis; adipocyte; monoglyceride lipase; hormone-sensitive lipase; chromosomal localisation; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Triglycerides in the adipocyte are hydrolysed by means of three consecutive reactions through the combined action of two lipases: hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and monoglyceride lipase (MGL). HSL catalyses the first and rate-limiting step, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    Författare :Anna Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes.
