6. Studies on the Role of UDP-Glucose Dehydrogenase in Polysaccharide Biosynthesis
Sammanfattning : Polysaccharides are found in all forms of life and serve diverse purposes. They are enzymatically synthesised from activated monosaccharide precursors, nucleotide sugars. One such nucleotide sugar is UDP-glucuronic acid, which is formed from UDP-glucose by the UDP-glucose dehydrogenase (UGDH) enzyme. LÄS MER
7. Glucuronyl C5-epimerases in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on two enzymes, both glucuronyl CS-epimerases, that catalyse the conversion of D-glucuronic acid (GlcA) into L-iduronic acid (IdoA) residues in the repeating disaccharide units of heparin/heparan sulphate (HS) and dermatan sulphate (DS) polymers. These glycosaminoglycans are produced as proteoglycans, in which linear polysaccharide chains are attached covalently to a protein core. LÄS MER
8. Crustacean immunity : Characterization of some crayfish blood proteins
Sammanfattning : The cDNA sequence and some properties of a previously purified #x03B2;-1,3-glucan binding protein are reported here. The putative amino acid sequence (predicted molecular mass: 152 kDa) of the protein did not show any significant similarity to any known protein, but an RGD motif and a region with slight similarity to bacterial glucanase was found. 9. Genomic Diversity and Evolution of Parasitism in Nematode-trapping Fungi
Sammanfattning : Nematode-trapping fungi are soil-living organisms that have the ability to form infection structures, traps to capture nematodes. Many nematode species are parasites on plants and animals, which have resulted in an interest to use the nematode-trapping fungi as biological control agents. LÄS MER
10. Cold Acclimation in oats and other plants: Dissecting low temperature responses using a comparative genomic approach
Sammanfattning : Cold acclimation protects plants from temperate regions of the world from the deleterious effects of low and freezing temperatures. This is through a series of transcriptional, regulatory and metabolic changes that enable continued growth and survival. LÄS MER
