  1. 1. MEKK-1 and NF-κB Signaling in Pancreatic Islet Cell Death

    Författare :Dariush Mokhtari; Nils Welsh; Michael Welsh; Anders Tengholm; Shanta Persaud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; MEKK-1; JNK; human islets; β-cells; siRNA; apoptosis; cell death; MAPK; nitric oxide; cytokines; streptozotocin; c-Rel; NF-κB; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease resulting in the selective destruction of the insulin producing β-cells in the pancreas. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and the free radical nitric oxide (NO) have been implicated in mediating the destruction of β-cells, possibly through activation of the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) JNK, ERK and p38. 2. 2. Regulation of NF-κB by Calmodulin

    Författare :Åsa Antonsson; Thomas Grundström; Ylva Engström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; NF-κB; calmodulin; transcription; calcium; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Cells experience numerous external signals which they must respond to. Such signals arriving at the cell surface are transduced via various signal transduction pathways and often ultimately result in regulation of transcription. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Calmodulin mediated regulation of NF-kappaB in lymphocytes

    Författare :Sofia Edin; Thomas Grundström; Sam Okret; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; calcium; CaM; CaMKII; NF-kappaB; Bc110; immunological synapse; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : NF-κB transcription factors are regulators of a wide spectrum of genes involved in immune responses and inflammation as well as cellular proliferation and survival. Transcriptionally competent NF-κB dimers are retained in the cytoplasm of resting cells by binding to inhibitors of NF-κB (IκBs). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies of high mobility group chromosomal protein 1 as a pro-inflammatory cytokine

    Författare :Gail E Mullins; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HMGB1; endothelial cells; pro-inflammatory; cytokine; RAGE;

    Sammanfattning : High mobility group box chromosomal protein 1 (HMGB 1) is a nuclear protein recently recognised as a pro-inflammatory cytokine with implications both in acute and in chronic inflammation. HMGB1 has been reported to act as a late mediator of septic shock in mice. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Polymorphism and expression of NF-κB in relation to susceptibility and prognosis of colorectal cancer patients

    Författare :Andreas Lewander; Xiao-Feng Sun; Bengt Gustavsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Normal human cells are strictly controlled in their environment by extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Despite this, some cells begin to develop into cancer cells, and if this process is allowed to continue, it will develop into cancer disease. To become cancerous, a cell must break several biological barriers. LÄS MER
