  1. 16. The population burden of gout and urate in Western Sweden : Prevalence, incidence, comorbidities, and association with cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Panagiota Drivelegka; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gout; Epidemiology; Comorbidities; Cardiovascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Gout is the most common type of inflammatory arthritis and is associated with several comorbidities and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, data on the epidemiology and comorbidity patterns of gout in Sweden are scarce, and whether its association with CVD is causal or not, is not clear. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Where are the world’s disease patterns heading? : The challenges of epidemiological transition

    Författare :Ailiana Santosa; Peter Byass; Ulf Högberg; Joacim Rocklöv; Sarah Wild; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiological transition; premature mortality; non-communicable disease; risk factors; Sweden; low-and middle-income countries; INDEPTH Network; Västerbotten Intervention Programme; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Sammanfattning : INTRODUCTION: Epidemiological transition theory, first postulated by Omran in 1971, provides a useful framework for understanding cause-specific mortality changes and may contribute usefully to predictions about cause-specific mortality. However, understandings of mortality transitions and associated epidemiological changes remain poorly defined for public health practitioners due to lack of evidence from low- and middle-income countries. 3. 18. Prevalence and Prognostic Impact of Periodontal Disease and Conventional Risk Factors in Patients with Stable Coronary Heart Disease

    Författare :Ola Vedin; Claes Held; Emil Hagström; Bertil Lindahl; Mai-Lis Hellenius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary heart disease; Secondary prevention; Prevention; Periodontal Disease; Tooth loss; Risk prediction; Risk factors; Myocardial infarction; Kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the prevalence and management of established cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and the prevalence and influence of self-reported markers (number of teeth and frequency of gum bleeding) of periodontal disease (PD), a less explored CV risk factor, in patients with stable chronic coronary heart disease (CHD).We studied patients from the global STabilization of Atherosclerotic plaque By Initiation of darapLadIb TherapY (STABILITY) trial (n=15,828), in which patients with stable chronic CHD were randomized to either darapladib or placebo. 4. 19. Epidemiology of cardiovascular disease in rural Vietnam

    Författare :Hoang Van Minh; Peter Byass; Stig Wall; Nguyen Thi Kim Chuc; Cairns Smith; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular disease; epidemiology; risk factors; rural Vietnam; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the context of transitional Vietnam, although cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been shown to cause a large burden of mortality and morbidity in hospitals, little is known about the magnitude of its burden, risk factor levels and its relationship with socio-demographic status in the overall population. This thesis provides a preliminary insight into population-based knowledge of the CVD epidemiology in rural Vietnam and contributes to the development of methodologies for monitoring it. LÄS MER

  5. 20. LIVING WITH PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE Quality of life and the patients' view of meaning

    Författare :Christine Wann-Hansson; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Short Form 36 Health Survey; Long-term follow-up; Quality of life; Peripheral arterial disease; Chronic illness; Nottingham Health Profile; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Content analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate quality of life and the meaning of living with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) before and after revascularization in a long-term and methodological perspective. The sample in the first study consisted of 142 patients with PAD who were planned for a revascularization. LÄS MER
