  1. 1. Studies of the tumor microenvironment : Local and systemic effects exerted by the cross-talk between tumor and stroma cells in pancreatic cancer

    Författare :Vegard Tjomsland; Marie Larsson; Arne Östman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pancreatic cancer; cancer associated fibroblasts; dendritic cells; IL-1alpha; tumor microenvironment; inflammation; bukspottkörtelcancer; Bukspyttkjertel kreft; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal cancers and despite all research efforts the last 50 years, there are still no effective therapy for this terrible disease. Until quite recently most research in the field of pancreatic duct adenocarcinoma (PDAC) was focused on the tumor cells and mechanisms essential for their proliferation and survival. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Utility of novel drug targets for treatment of metastatic cancer

    Författare :Tianyan Wang; Jenny Persson; Thomas Grundström; Maréne Landström; Margareta Wilhelm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic cancer; castration-resistant prostate cancer; pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; target therapy; PIP5K1α; KRAS; molecularly imprinted polymers; Oncology; onkologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Metastasis is the leading cause of cancer death because of a lack of early diagnosis tools and efficient treatment drugs. The lipid kinase phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5 kinase (PIP5K1α) has been shown to play a vital role in the PI3K/AKT and KRAS signaling pathways. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Pancreatic Tumour Microenvironment. Influence by macrophages and glucose levels on tumourigenesis

    Författare :Emelie Karnevi; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic cancer is the fourth cause of cancer-related death with a 5-year survival rate less than 5%. Two of the risk factors are chronic pancreatitis and type 2 diabetes (T2D), which are believed to promote the tumour progression. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pancreatic carcinoma in Malmö, Sweden: Clinical, epidemiological and biochemical aspects

    Författare :Mats Hedberg; Kirurgi; []

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis has been to assess whether there are indications suggesting that new methods for diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic carcinoma (PCa) has been followed by an improved prognosis, and to assess the possible role of smoking and gastric resection in the causation of the disease. Of the 1,200 new cases PCa diagnosed in Sweden yearly, the majority are older than 70 years, the case fatality rate being close to 100%. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are non-conventional health care approaches used in parallel with or instead of conventional medicine. Little is known about Swedish patients’ patterns of complementary CAM use in the context of cancer. LÄS MER
