  1. 16. Seawater pH as a Controlling Factor in Macroalgal Calcification and Photosynthesis

    Författare :Immaculate Sware Semesi; Mats Björk; Sven Beer; O. P. Rui Santos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Calcareous macroalgae; CO2; mussels; pH; seagrasses; tropical lagoons; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biological calcification and photosynthesis are important processes with a great influence on both structure and function of oceanic ecosystems. The pH of the seawater has a strong influence on both these processes and therefore the impacts of different pH levels on calcareous macroalgae were investigated in laboratory and field experiments at Chwaka and Fumba Bays in Zanzibar, Tanzania. 2. 17. Lignocellulosic residues for bioenergy : effects of storage, fuel design, and combustion characteristics

    Författare :Marjan Bozaghian; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Utilization of lignocellulosic residues for bioenergy raises storage, handling, and combustion challenges. The ash-forming elements in biomass may cause ash-related problems during combustion, such as slagging, fouling, corrosion, or bed agglomeration. Most of these problems are linked to ash-chemical reactions involving alkali. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Marine biogenic polysaccharides as a potential source of aerosol in the high Arctic : Towards a link between marine biology and cloud formation

    Författare :Qiuju Gao; Caroline Leck; Ulrika Nilsson; Eric Saltzman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polysaccharides; Biogenic polymer microgels; Arctic Ocean; LC MS MS; Surface microlayer; Marine aerosol particles; Remote marine cloud condensation nuclei; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Primary marine aerosol particles containing biogenic polymer microgels play a potential role for cloud formation in the pristine high Arctic summer. One of the major sources of the polymer gels in Arctic aerosol was suggested to be the surface water and more specifically, the surface microlayer (SML) of the open leads within the perennial sea ice as a result of bubble bursting at the air-sea interface. 4. 19. Biomass gasification in ABFB : Tar mitigation

    Författare :Nemanova Vera; Klas Engvall; Joan Salvadó; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ash; biomass; char; gasification; iron-based; petcoke; tar; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Biomass gasification may be an attractive alternative for meeting future energy demand. Although gasification is a mature technology, it has yet to be fully commercialised due to tar formation. This study focuses on the tar mitigation in gas produced in an atmospheric bubbling fluidised bed (ABFB) gasification system. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Emission of methane from northern lakes and ponds

    Författare :Martin Wik; Patrick Crill; Isabelle Laurion; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; ponds; water bodies; methane; fluxes; ebullition; stable isotopes; arctic; subarctic; carbon cycling; climate change; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Northern lakes and ponds are abundant and emit large amounts of the potent climate forcer methane to the atmosphere at rates prone to change with amplified Arctic warming. In spite of being important, fluxes from surface waters are not well understood. LÄS MER
