1. Type 2 Cystatins. Studies on the role of the major cystatin, cystatin C, in mice and on properties and distribution of the novel human cystatins F, G, H and I
Sammanfattning : The aim the thesis work was to study the human cystatins C, E/M, F, G, H and I both in vivo and in vitro. A mouse devoid of cystatin C was used for the cystatin C studies. The levels of cystatins C, E/M and F were measured in pleural effusion samples of patients with various lung disorders. LÄS MER
2. Hormonal regulation of phosphodiesterase 3B in adipocytes
Sammanfattning : Insulin induced activation of the cAMP degrading enzyme phosphodiesterase (PDE) 3B in adipocytes is important for insulin mediated inhibition of lipolysis. The aim of this thesis was to contribute with knowledge on the acute activation of PDE3B in response to insulin and catecholamines in adipocytes. LÄS MER
3. Tissue tropism among group A streptococci - importance of bacteria associated proteolytic activity
Sammanfattning : Group A streptococcus (GAS) is one of the most common of bacterial pathogens infecting humans, frequently causing throat and skin infection. Some GAS strains have surface-expressed virulence factors called M proteins that bind human plasminogen with high affinity. LÄS MER
4. Modulation of Autoimmunity by Linomide treatment or interference with costimulation
Sammanfattning : Linomide is a potent immunomodulator that has been shown to inhibit autoimmunity in several animal models of autoimmune disease. We have approached the cellular and molecular mechanism of Linomide by investigating its effect on thymocyte development and its capacity to modulate the expression of activation markers on antigen presenting cells (APCs). 5. Hormone-sensitive lipase: Molecular analyses of the human gene; structural and evolutionary aspects on expression, alternative splicing and cold adaptation
Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is a key enzyme in adipose tissue that hydrolyses stored fat (triacylglycerol). The activity of HSL is under strict hormonal and neural control. LÄS MER
