6. Who is Who in the Adipose Organ : A look at the Heterogeneity of Adipocyte Biology
Sammanfattning : The increasing prevalence of obesity and related health complications, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer, demands thorough investigation of the underlying processes. One of the key tissues investigated in this context is adipose tissue. LÄS MER
7. Brown is the new white: consequences of white adipose tissue alterations in Huntington's disease
Sammanfattning : Huntington's disease (HD) is a devastating, inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expanded CAG repeat in the huntingtin gene. Peripheral symptoms, such as skeletal muscle wasting, progressive weight loss, altered body composition and endocrine disturbances exist alongside neurodegeneration. LÄS MER
8. Energy flow and metabolic efficiency attributed to brown adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : The large capacity of brown adipose tissue (BAT) to expend energy as heat makes it an interesting potential player in weight regulation and other metabolic conditions. This is of particular interest as it has been recognized that adult humans possess BAT. LÄS MER
9. Dietary, Pharmacological and Environmental Effects on Brown Adipose Tissue
Sammanfattning : Obesity is a common health issue; over 12 % of the adult world population have obesity. Obesity has many co-morbidities including cardo-vascular diseases and diabetes. Obesity is the result of chronic positive energy balance, eating too much and expending too little. LÄS MER
10. The secretome of brown adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : Brown adipose tissue has long been known for its heat-producing capacity, but less is known about its possible effects as a secretory organ. This thesis summarizes information about presently known factors secreted from brown adipose tissue and about their actions. We were able to add factors to the list by the use of a signal-sequence trap method. LÄS MER
