  1. 6. Eosinophil Inflammation in Allergic Disease : Clinical and experimental studies in allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis

    Författare :Mary Kämpe; Marie Carlson; Christer Janson; Gunnemar Stålenheim; Magnus Sköld; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allergic asthma; allergic rhinitis; eosinophils; pollen season; bronchial challenge; nasal challenge eosinophil degranulation; PI3K signalling; Allergology; Allergologi; Lung Medicine; Lungmedicin; Lung Medicine; Lungmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic diseases are chronic inflammatory conditions, characterised by eosinophil inflammation systemically and in target organs, where cytotoxic granule proteins are responsible for tissue injury. Allergic rhinitis is known to be a risk factor for the development of asthma, yet not all with rhinitis develop asthma. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome

    Författare :Masoumeh Karimpour; Malin Nording L.; Magnus Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LC MS; GC MS; NMR; metabolomics; metabolite; exposure; postprandial; plasma; lung lavage; BW; BW; data analysis; univariate analysis; multivariate analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 3. 8. Induction of a non-allergic inflammation in the human respiratory tract by organic dust

    Författare :Britt-Marie Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Swine farmers; airway inflammation; bronchial responsiveness; organic dust; interleukins; lekotrienes;

    Sammanfattning : Swine farming is an occupation associated with high exposure levels to organic dust, but gases such as ammonia and hydrogen sulphide are also contributing to the potentially hazardous exposure. The prevalences for respiratory symptoms, chronic or work-related, are increased among swine farmers, compared to both the normal population as well as other farming categories. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Clinical studies of asthma phenotypes focusing on the role of the leukotrienes

    Författare :Per Gyllfors; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :>asthma; aspirin intolerance; leukotrienes; leukotriene D4 responsiveness; methacholine responsiveness; exhaled nitric oxide;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation in the airways in connection to asthma is a complex phenomenon and the mechanisms underlying the associated clinical symptoms involve the interaction of many different kinds of cells and mediators, giving rise to different phenotypes. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms that results in two of these phenotypes, i. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Quality of life and markers of inflammation : a study of asthma in primary care

    Författare :Per Olof Ehrs; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Mild Asthma; primary care; quality of life; airway inflammation; bronchial responsiveness; fluticasone.;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma is a chronic disease that usually is diagnosed and treated in primary care. Most patients have a mild to moderate disease. Asthma is considered to be caused by inflammation of the airways. LÄS MER
