  1. 6. Obesity, Adipocytes and Breast Cancer – Insights from Translational Studies

    Författare :Malin Bergqvist; Bröstcancer - prevention & intervention; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; Breast cancer risk; Breast cancer prognosis; Obesity; Adipocyte; Adipokines; CAP; Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Being overweight is becoming the new normal, and more than half of the adult Swedish population is overweight which poses a risk to public health. Overweight and obese women have both an increased risk and a worse prognosis for breast cancer, compared with women of normal weight. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Breast Cancer Prevention – lifestyle modifications or targeted interventions?

    Författare :Öykü Boraka; LUCC: Lunds universitets cancercentrum; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; breast cancer prevention; physical activity; mammography; breast density;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is now the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the world. Breast cancer prevention has gained increasing attention due to increasing breast cancer incidence rates in the West and can be actualized through lifestyle modifications or targeted interventions. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Wnt-5a signaling in breast cancer metastasis

    Författare :Annette Säfholm; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi; General pathology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; breast cancer; Wnt-5a; migration; pathological anatomy; metastasis; signal transduction; peptides; Cytology; cancerology; oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy affecting women in the Western world. Today, anticancer treatment can control primary breast tumors, but treatment and prevention of metastatic disease still represents a major challenge in the management of breast cancer patients. 4. 9. Functional and Molecular Characterization of BRCA1 and BRCA2 Associated Breast Cancer

    Författare :Johan Vallon-Christersson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Cytologi; cancerology; Cytology; BioArray Software Environment; BASE; Software; Open-source; Copy number; Gene expression; Microarray; BRCA2; BRCA1; Breast cancer; Hereditary cancer; oncology;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral dissertation is based on five appended papers primarily concerned with three main topics, namely: the functional characterization of specific and clinically relevant perturbations found in BRCA1 ? one of the major breast cancer susceptibility genes; the use of microarray technologies for molecular characterization of hereditary breast tumor samples from a genomic perspective; and finally, the development of software to address some of the logistical problems of data analysis and management that arise when utilizing microarrays. Results obtained from the work presented herein demonstrate the following: that transcription az says can aid in the characterization of C-terminal missense mutations but that it may not be possible to unambiguously characterize variants with a yeast-based assay alone; that a naturally occurring C-terminal germline mutation in BRCA1 encodes a protein with apparent temperature-dependant functional properties; that open-source software can provide comprehensive solutions to meet data management needs of microarray experimenters; that BRCA1 and BRCA2 associated breast tumors exhibit markedly different copy number aberrations when compared to each other as well as to sporadic tumors; and that gene expression profiling in BRCA1 and BRCA2 associated breast tumors reveals specific gene expression patterns. 5. 10. RNA Sequencing for Molecular Diagnostics in Breast Cancer

    Författare :Christian Brueffer; Translational Oncogenomics; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cancer; Breast Cancer; RNA sequencing; Gene Expression; Mutation; Biomarker; SCAN-B; Diagnostics; Precision Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women and, in Sweden, is the most deadly second only to lung cancer. While treatment and diagnostic options have improved in the past decades and short- to mid-term survival is good, long-term survival is much poorer. LÄS MER
