1. Crack-junctions : Bridging the gap between nano electronics and giga manufacturing
Sammanfattning : Obtaining both nanometer precision of patterning and parallel fabrication on wafer-scale is currently not possible in conventional fabrication schemes. Just as we are looking beyond semiconductor technologies for next-generation electronics and photonics, our efforts turn to new ways of producing electronic and photonic interfaces with the nanoscale. 2. Nonequilibrium Effects in Mesoscopic Josephson Junctions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we present a unified scattering approach to current transport in mesoscopic Josephson junctions out of equilibrium. A nonequilibrium situation is created by either quasiparticle injection into the normal part of the junction, or by applying a dc-voltage between the two superconducting electrodes. LÄS MER
3. DNA double-strand break repair in ascomycetes
Sammanfattning : Nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) and homologous recombination (HR) are two pathways for DNA double strand break (DSB) repair. We found that the NHEJ protein Nej1 interacted physically with the HR protein Srs2, which was dependent on phosphorylation of Nej1 by Dun1. Srs2 recruitment to a DSB partly relied on Nej1 and Dun1. 4. Molecular photoswitches toward single-molecule electronics applications
Sammanfattning : The drive towards miniaturization of electronic devices has sparked a growing interest in finding alternatives to conventional silicon-based technology. Over the years, molecular electronics has emerged as a promising avenue for the fabrication of electronic components with advanced functions. LÄS MER
5. On the Computation of Turbulent Mixing Processes with Application to EGR in IC-engines
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with turbulent mixing processes occuring in internal combustion engines, when applying exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). EGR is a very efficient way to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in internal combustion engines. LÄS MER
