2. A Multitype Branching Processes Approach to the Evolutionary Dynamics of Escape
Sammanfattning : Evolutionary dynamics of escape is a recent development in theoretical biology. It is an attempt to predict possible patterns of population dynamics for a certain strain of viruses placed in a hostile environment. The only way to escape extinction for the virus is to find a new form better adapted to the new environment. LÄS MER
3. Multi-trait Branching Models with Applications to Species Evolution
Sammanfattning : This thesis provides an analysis of the evolution of discrete traits and their effect on the birth and survival of species using the theory of supercritical, continuous time Markov branching processes. We present a branching modeling framework that incorporates multi-trait diversification processes associated with the emergence of new species, death of existing species, and transition of species carrying one type of a trait to another. 4. Markov Chains, Renewal, Branching and Coalescent Processes : Four Topics in Probability Theory
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers. In paper 1, we prove central limit theorems for Markov chains under (local) contraction conditions. As a corollary we obtain a central limit theorem for Markov chains associated with iterated function systems with contractive maps and place-dependent Dini-continuous probabilities. LÄS MER
5. Statistical Modelling of Cell Cycle Dynamics Analysis and Interpretation of BrdUrd DNA FCM-Derived Data
Sammanfattning : It it of great importance to increase the knowledge of various cell cycle kinetic parameters and the objective of this thesis is to use stochastic models to interpret Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdUrd) DNA Flow Cytometry (FCM) derived data in order to estimate such parameters. The cell cycle is the process of growth and division that is essential for an organism to increase in size. LÄS MER
