  1. 1. Characteristics of BVOC emissions from a Swedish boreal forest : Using chambers to capture biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) from trees and forest floor

    Författare :Min Wang; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BVOCs; boral forest; Norway spruce; forest floor; branch chamber; soil chamber;

    Sammanfattning : Plant-emitted biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) are a large group of hydrocarbons released by plant leaves, bark, flowers and fruits into the atmosphere and from plant roots into the soil. BVOCs have important physiological and ecological functions, such as mediating within-plant and plant-plant communication, defense against herbivores attack, protection against heat or other oxidative stress, attracting pollinators etc. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The variability in Salix BVOC emissions and possible consequences for managed SRC plantations

    Författare :Tomas Karlsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Salix; BVOCs; varieties; age; branch chamber; leaf chambe; GC-MS; aerosols; Salix; BVOCs; varieties; age; branch chamber; leaf chamber; GC-MS; aerosols;

    Sammanfattning : Willow (Salix spp.) trees have been used commercially since the 1980s to produce renewable energy. Some benefits with these trees are that they can clean soil from heavy metals, reduce the risk of nutrient leakage and eutrophication. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Methane exchange in a boreal forest: : the role of soils vegetation and forest management

    Författare :Elin Sundqvist; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chamber measurements; gradient measurements; clear-cut; topography; water table depth;

    Sammanfattning : Popular Abstract in English Forests have a positive impact on the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere because they absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis and store carbon in the soil. Moreover, many forests function as a sink for the greenhouse gas methane (CH4). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aeroacoustics Studies of Duct Branches with Application to Silencers

    Författare :Mikael Karlsson; Mats Åbom; Luc Mongeau; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; silencer; muffler; confined flows; flow duct; aeroacoustics; vortex sound; acoustic multiports; linear stability; self-sustained oscillations; whistling; Herschel-Quincke tube; acoustic resonator; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : New methodologies and concepts for developing compact and energy efficient automotive exhaust systems have been studied. This originates in the growing concern for global warming, to which road transportation is a major contributor. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A Risky and Polarized World : Essays on Uncertainty, Ideology and Foreign Policy

    Författare :Maximiliano Sosa Andrés; Eva Mörk; Luca Repetto; Pilar Sorribas-Navarro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Risk tolerance; uncertainty; institutions; polarization; policy; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Essay 1 - We examine whether risk aversion as well as higher order risk attitudes (HORAs) (prudence and temperance) have changed during COVID-19. We include prudence and temperance as higher order measures, as these two have been largely understudied under extreme events but are determinants of decisions related to the health and financial domains.
