  1. 6. Inflammation-Induced Gene Expression in Brain and Adrenal Gland

    Författare :Linda Engström; Anders Blomqvist; Tomas Hökfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; brain; adrenal gland; stress; lipopolysaccharide; interleukin-1; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The autonomic nervous system serves to maintain a constant inner environment, a process termed homeostasis. Thus, in response to the homeostatic challenge posed by infectious agents, the autonomic nervous system answers to signals from the immune system and elicits adaptive physiological and behavioral reactions. 2. 7. Quality systems to avoid secondary brain injury in neurointensive care

    Författare :Lena Nyholm; Per Enblad; Camilla Fröjd; Anders Lewén; Bo-Michael Bellander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic brain injury; Subarachnoid hemorrhage; Intracranial pressure; Quality register; Checklist; Nursing interventions; Pressure autoregulation; Intracranial compliance; Hyperthermia; Cerebral energy metabolism; Microdialysis and Brain tissue oxygenation.; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Outcome after traumatic brain injury (TBI) depends on the extent of primary cell death and on the development of secondary brain injury. The general aim of this thesis was to find strategies and quality systems to minimize the extent of secondary insults in neurointensive care (NIC). LÄS MER

  3. 8. A-type Potassium Channels in Dendritic Integration : Role in Epileptogenesis

    Författare :Jenny Tigerholm; Erik Fransén; Fredrik Elinder; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; epileptogenesis; fast ripples; synchronicity; dendritic potentials; transient A–type potassium current; KV 4.2; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : During cognitive tasks, synchronicity of neural activity varies and is correlated with performance. However, there may be an upper limit to normal synchronised activity – specifically, epileptogenic activity is characterized byexcess spiking at high synchronicity. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Development of central catecholaminergic neuronal systems in the lizard Anolis sagrei

    Författare :Agneta Rehn; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; double labelling; immunohistochemistry; interplexiform cells; amacrine cells; catecholamines; development; retina; Reptiles; brain; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Sammanfattning : Catecholamines, comprising the neurotransmitters dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (A) are synthesized by specific enzymes (tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine ß-hydroxylase (DBH), phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase (PNMT)) in the central nervous system. The development and distribution of different catecholaminergic systems have been described in both the brain and retina of the lizard Anolis sagrei. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Experimental Traumatic Brain Injury and Cell Death - in vivo and in vitro aspects

    Författare :Gustav Mattiasson; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; uncoupling protein; mitochondrial permeability transition; cerebral blood flow; functional outcome; cell death; mitochondria; hippocampus; preconditioning; trauma; Brain; ischemia; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic and ischemic brain damage are major causes of disability and death. While much effort has been spent on developing pharmacological treatments for these conditions, no neuroprotective drugs are in clinical use. LÄS MER
