1. Towards a deeper understanding of the human brain
Sammanfattning : Identifying the proteome variation in different parts of the body provides fundamental molecular details, enabling further findings and mapping of tissue specific proteins. By combining quantitative transcriptomics with qualitative antibody based proteomics, the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project aims to protein profile each human protein-coding gene. LÄS MER
2. Human brain function evaluated with rCBF-SPECT : memory and pain related changes and new diagnostic possibilities in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis was to study the influence of memory, pain, age and education on the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), i.e. brain function, in early Alzheimer's disease (AD) and in chronic neck pain patients in comparison to healthy controls and in healthy elderly per se. 3. The aging brain and changes in cognitive performance : Findings from morphometry and quantitative susceptibility mapping of iron
Sammanfattning : Brain aging is a heterogeneous phenomenon, and this thesis illustrates how the course of aging can vary within individuals over time and between individuals as a function of age, sex, and genetic variability. We used two contrasts from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), namely spin-lattice T1-weighted imaging, and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) from gradient-echo images, to picture the aging brain, by means of morphometric measures and brain-iron concentrations. 4. Mapping prosody onto the lexicon : Memory traces for lexically specified prosodic information in the brain
Sammanfattning : Lexical access, the matching of auditory information onto lexical representations in the brain, is a crucial component of online language processing. To understand the nature of lexical access, it is important to identify the kind of acoustic information that is stored in the long-term memory and to study how the brain uses such information. 5. Mapping brain circuits : anatomy, connectivity and function
Sammanfattning : To decipher neural circuits anatomy is the central basis for all kinds of neurobiological studies. Here in this thesis, I will start with extensive overview of the current methods that have been intensively employed in labeling and mapping neurons and neuronal activities, including tracing techniques, imaging/recording systems and manipulation tools.
