  1. 1. Long-term outcome after traumatic brain injury : studies of individuals from northern Sweden

    Författare :Lars Jacobsson; Jörgen Borg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health Science; Hälsovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : As traumatic brain injury (TBI) is as one of the major causes of long-term disability, there is an increasing interest in the long-term outcome of TBI. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge and understanding of the situation for individuals many years post injury, with regard to demographics, injury characteristics and primary outcome, long-term functioning and disability, health-related quality of life, life satisfaction, self-appraisal of the impact of the TBI and sense of coherence. 2. 2. On Brain Oedema

    Författare :Mårten Jungner; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatic brain injury; brain oedema; fluid therapy; blood-brain barrier;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury and bacterial meningitis may at a glance appear as two different disease entities. The host reaction, however, to both trauma and infection involves a strong inflammatory response, with the classical symptomology of rubor, tumor, calor, dolor et functio laesa. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Occupational therapy practice for clients with cognitive impairments following aquired brain injury : occupational therapists' perspective

    Författare :Kajsa Lidström Holmqvist; Ann-Britt Ivarsson; Kitty Kamwendo; Marie Holmefur; Margareta Lilja; Örebro universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe occupational therapy practice for clients with cognitive impairment following acquired brain injury (CIABI) from the perspective of practicing occupational therapists (OTs).To fulfill this aim, qualitative and quantitative approaches were used including interviews (Study I) and questionnaires (Studies II -IV). 4. 4. Office work and physical factors : health aspects of electromagnetic fields and light

    Författare :Monica Sandström; Kjell Hansson Mild; Gunnar Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Facial skin symptoms; office illness; electrical hypersensitivity; physical environment; flicker; jitter; neurophysiological effects;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of the physical environment of office workers with special focus on electromagnetic fields and to address the question of whether electromagnetic fields can directly or indirectly contribute to symptoms or discomfort among video display terminal ( VDT) workers. Furthermore, we have measured light modulation from various commonly used light sources in laboratory conditions and, as a second step, used modulated light as stimulus for provocation of neurophysiological responses in persons with perceived “electrical hypersensitivity” (EHS). 5. 5. Aerobic fitness and healthy brain aging : cognition, brain structure, and dopamine

    Författare :Lars Jonasson; Carl-Johan Boraxbekk; Katrine Riklund; Emrah Düzel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aerobic exercise; VO2; working memory; executive function; freesurfer; striatum; dopamine; D2-receptors; [11C]raclopride;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Performing aerobic exercise and maintaining high levels of aerobic fitness may have positive effects on both brain structure and function in older adults. Despite decades of research however, there is still a rather poor understanding of the neurocognitive mechanisms explaining the positive effects of aerobic exercise on cognition. LÄS MER
