  1. 1. Tumors associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Defective Mismatch Repair and Familial Risk of Cancer

    Författare :Kajsa Ericson Lindquist; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Multiple Tumors; Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer; Cytology; Cohort study; Population based; Familial Risk of Cancer; Immunohistochemistry; MSH2; MSH6; MLH1; Microsatellite Instability; Soft Tissue Sarcomas; Cancer of the Upper Urinary Tract; Cancer of the Small Intestine; Colorectal Cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Inactivation of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system is a tumorigenic mechanism involved in 15-20% of tumor types such as colorectal and endometrial cancer and is specifically associated with the Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) syndrome. These MMR defective tumors are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI), a phenomenon that reflects alterations in length of repeated sequences, and 90% of MSI tumors show loss of immunohistochemical expression for the MMR protein affected. 2. 2. Towards UWB microwave hyperthermia for brain cancer treatment

    Författare :Massimiliano Zanoli; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; treatment planning; microwave hyperthermia; brain cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Despite numerous clinical trials demonstrating that microwave hyperthermia is a powerful adjuvant modality in the treatment of cancers, there have been few instances where this method has been applied to brain tumors. The reason is a combination of anatomical and physiological factors in this site that require an extra degree of accuracy and control in the thermal dose delivery which current systems are not able to provide. 3. 3. Molecular Genetic Alterations In Endometrial And Ovarian Cancers

    Författare :Anjila Koul; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; KRAS; PTEN; TP53; Overexpression; Mutation; Microsatellite instability; Complex atypical hyperplasia; Endometrial cancer; Ovarian cancer; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; CNS metastasis; Cytogenetic analysis; BRCA2; BRCA1; B-catenin; CDKN2A;

    Sammanfattning : Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological cancer diagnosed in western countries. Complex atypical hyperplasia (CAH) reflects a state of hyperestrinism and its role as a precursor lesion of this cancer is established. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Författare :Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence. 5. 5. Balancing - Cancer from a primary care perspective. Diagnosis, posttraumatic stress, and end-of-life care

    Författare :Hans Thulesius; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medicinsk utbildning; Cytology; grounded theory; brain tumor; leukemia; child; ovarian cancer; breast cancer; prognosis; end-of-life care; screening; posttraumatic stress; diagnosis; primary care; Cancer; family practice; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; General practice; medical training; Allmän medicinsk utövning;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores cancer from a primary care perspective covering three areas: diagnosis, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and end-of-life care. We analyzed patient records of every child diagnosed with a malignancy in a defined area. During 12 years 68 children were diagnosed (incidence 14/100,000). LÄS MER
