  1. 1. Telomeres and the brain : an investigation into the relationships of leukocyte telomere length with functional and structural attributes of the brain

    Författare :Mikael Wikgren; Karl-Fredrik Norrback; Rolf Adolfsson; Göran Roos; Thomas Karlsson; Brenda Penninx; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APOE; aging; atrophy; brain; cognition; cortisol; depression; hippocampus; HPA axis; MRI; stress; telomere length; white matter hyper-intensities.;

    Sammanfattning : Telomeres are the outermost parts of linear chromosomes. They consist of tandemly repeated non-coding short nucleotide sequences (TTAGGG in all vertebrates), in humans spanning over the last 2 to 15 kilobase pairs of the chromosome. Due to the end-replication problem, telomeres shorten with each cellular division. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes

    Författare :Erika Dahlin; Lars Nyberg; Anna Stigsdotter Neely; Torkel Klingberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognitive training; executive functioning; transfer; fMRI; brain system; young adults; elderly; practice; neural correlates; individual differences; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Cognitive science; Kognitionsforskning; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks. 3. 3. Temporal dynamics of brain plasticity : characterizing brain structural changes during skill acquisition

    Författare :Tomás Mediavilla; Daniel Marcellino; Alexandra Badea; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Motor learning; brain plasticity; structural plasticity; magnetic resonance imaging; voxel-based morphometry; tractography; connectivity; motor cortex; posterior parietal cortex; cerebellum; vesicular glutamate transporter;

    Sammanfattning : Traditionally, structural plasticity in the human brain has been considered to follow a linear or asymptotic increase over the course of training. However, recent studies using structural MRI revealed transient increases in grey matter volume (GMV) with learning. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Möjlighet till aktivitet och delaktighet utanför hemmet för personer med förvärvad hjärnskada

    Författare :Alexandra Olofsson; Maria Larsson-Lund; Anneli Nyman; Ewa Wressle; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

  5. 5. Reality-based brain-computer interaction

    Författare :Daniel Sjölie; Lars-Erik Janlert; Johan Eriksson; John Waterworth; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reality-based brain-computer interaction; virtual reality; reality-based interaction; brain-computer interface; activity theory; the free-energy principle; grounded cognition; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap; Computer science; Datalogi; människa-datorinteraktion; människa-datorinteraktion;

    Sammanfattning : Recent developments within human-computer interaction (HCI) and cognitive neuroscience have come together to motivate and enable a framework for HCI with a solid basis in brain function and human reality. Human cognition is increasingly considered to be critically related to the development of human capabilities in the everyday environment (reality). LÄS MER
