  1. 6. Outcome of burn care : the mortality perspective

    Författare :Laura Pompermaier; Folke Sjöberg; Ingrid Steinvall; Mats Fredrikson; Johan Thorfinn; Jyrki Vuola; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Despite the improvements in burn care during the last decades, burns remain catastrophic for the patients and a challenge for the care-givers.  The early outcome of burn care is to assess its quality and to improve it, but the crucial outcome is mortality, which is the main focus of this thesis. 2. 7. Engineering 3D degradable pliable scaffolds for adipose tissue regeneration : Advancing cell-material interactions by understanding the influence from thermal, chemical, mechanical properties and scaffold design

    Författare :Shubham Jain; Anna Finne-Wistrand; Kamal Mustafa; Mikael Hedenqvist; Lauren Flynn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Degradable polymers; 3D scaffolds; adipose tissue regeneration; cell-material interaction; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : In soft tissue defects that arise due to trauma, tumor resections and complex burns, a significant loss in adipose tissue remains a considerable challenge due to the insufficient regenerative capacity of the tissue. This thesis focuses on assessing cell-material interactions between degradable 3D polymer scaffolds with different designs and adipose tissue-derived stem cells. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Författare :Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. LÄS MER

  4. 9. On Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, bacterial translocation and intestinal permeability

    Författare :Peter Mangell; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacterial translocation; permeability; intestinal microflora; Kirurgi; orthopaedics; P-selectin; ortopedi; traumatologi; leukocyte recruitment; Lactobacillus plantarum 299v; traumatology; Surgery; colon resection;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract harbours a huge load of bacteria which exerts important biological functions to maintain health. In certain conditions the relation between commensal bacteria and pathogens may be set off balance, with an increase in number of pathogens and risk of bacterial translocation (BT). LÄS MER

  5. 10. Treatment of Skin Wounds with Cell Transplantation and Gene Transfer

    Författare :Tor Svensjö; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pigs; gene regulation; cell culture; fibroblasts; keratinocytes; wound healing; skin; gene transfer; Transplantation; gene therapy; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A large number of different wound coverings have been used in order to improve the wound microenvironment, and thus accelerate repair. Since almost two centuries, clinicians and researchers have developed techniques for skin transplantation. LÄS MER
