  1. 16. Bone Regeneration with Cell-free Injectable Scaffolds

    Författare :Gry Hulsart Billström; Sune Larsson; Kenneth B Jonsson; Jöns Hilborn; Håkan Engqvist; Olle Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone tissue engineering; hydrogel; computed tomography; positron emission tomography; large femoral bone defect; rat model; hydrogel; in vivo; osteogenesis; bone regeneration; 3R; single-photon emission computed tomography; bone morphogenetic protein 2; calcium phosphates; injectable; bisphosphonate;

    Sammanfattning : Bone is a remarkable multifunctional tissue with the ability to regenerate and remodel without generating any scar tissue. However, bone loss due to injury or diseases can be a great challenge and affect the patient significantly. Autologous bone grafting is commonly used throughout the world. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Diffusion in Bone Tissue

    Författare :Gustav Lindberg; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone growth; diffusion; stress enhanced; finite element method; steady-state; periosteal membrane; diffusion in bovine bone; diffusion experiment; Conductivity measurement; Fick’s law; Fourier series; Kalman filter; transient solution;

    Sammanfattning : In order to prevent or modify the processes of bone degeneration the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Bone density, bone geometry and bone development in young men - the importance of pubertal timing and fracture history

    Författare :Anna Darelid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peak bone mass; bone mineral density; bone development; fracture; young adulthood; men;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objective: Peak bone mass, the maximal bone mass attained in young adulthood, is an important factor of the lifetime risk of developing osteoporosis. The aim of this thesis was to study the development of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone geometry around the time of peak bone mass in men, and also to investigate the association between pubertal timing, fracture history, bone turnover markers and BMD and bone geometry in young men. 4. 19. Functional Genomics of Bone Metabolism : Novel Candidate Genes Identified by Studies in Chicken Models

    Författare :Carl-Johan Rubin; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Leif Andersson; David Burt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular medicine; QTL; Bone; Osteoporosis; Gene expression; Microarray; Domestication; Molekylärmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a disease that leads to decreased bone mineral density (BMD), an altered bone micro-architecture and fragile bones. The disease is highly heritable and numerous genes are thought to be involved, making it difficult to identify the causative genetic elements. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Physical activity, bone gain and sustainment of peak bone mass

    Författare :Taru Tervo; Anna Nordström; Peter Nordström; Jon Karlsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :BMD; physical activity; men; athletes; trabecular bone; cortical bone; self-perceived health; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Weak and osteoporotic bones are an increasing cause of mortality and painful physical impairment among the elderly, especially in the Western world. Bone mineral density (BMD, g/cm2) accrual during childhood and adolescence is thought to influence an individual’s risk of osteoporosis and the related fractures. LÄS MER
