  1. 6. Altered body composition in adults with complex congenital heart disease

    Författare :Karna Johansson; Camilla Sandberg; Bengt Johansson; Thomas Mooe; Mats Börjesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adults with complex congenital heart disease; ACHD; body composition; skeletal muscle; lean mass; muscular strength; sarcopenia; bone; bone mass; bone mineral density; bone health; osteoporosis; fat; fat mass; obesity; Vuxna med medfödda hjärtfel; vuxna med komplexa medfödda hjärtfel; komplexa medfödda hjärtfel; kroppssammansättning; skelettmuskel; styrka; sarkopeni; ben; benmassa; bendensitet; osteoporos; fett; fettmassa; obesitas; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thanks to achievements in paediatric heart surgery and medicine, the population of adults with surgically repaired or palliated congenital heart defects is growing. Many of these adults have reduced exercise capacity, weaker muscular strength and shorter height, all of which suggest an altered body composition. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Bone density, bone geometry and bone development in young men - the importance of pubertal timing and fracture history

    Författare :Anna Darelid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peak bone mass; bone mineral density; bone development; fracture; young adulthood; men;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objective: Peak bone mass, the maximal bone mass attained in young adulthood, is an important factor of the lifetime risk of developing osteoporosis. The aim of this thesis was to study the development of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone geometry around the time of peak bone mass in men, and also to investigate the association between pubertal timing, fracture history, bone turnover markers and BMD and bone geometry in young men. 3. 8. Bone Mineral Density Determination in Children. Evaluation of a novel method and application to Duchenne muscular dystrophy

    Författare :Ann-Charlott Söderpalm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adolescents; age- and gender-matched; Becker; bone densitometry; bone markers; bone mineral density; calciotropic hormones; children; DXA; DXL; Duchenne; glucocorticoids; muscular dystrophy; normative; reference values; skeleton;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate the dual-energy X-ray and laser (DXL) method for bone densitometry measurements of the calcaneus in children, to provide reference data for bone mineral density (BMD) in the heel bone in young children and to apply the DXL technique to patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and conduct a survey about bone health of DMD patients. Study populations and methods: The DXL Calscan method was modified and adapted for measurements in children and applied to bone densitometry in all subsequent studies. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Bone mineral density in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Susanne Schmidt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone mineral density; inflammatory bowel disease; children; Crohn s disease; ulcerative colitis; vitamin D; parathyroid hormone; familial resemblance; body composition; growth;

    Sammanfattning : Low bone mineral density (BMD) has been highlighted as a potential problem in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases in the westernized world. The mechanisms behind reduced BMD in pediatric IBD are still not completely understood, but several factors that influence bone mineralization have been discussed. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Bone Mineral Density in Haemophilila: A Treatment Outcome

    Författare :Mohammed Khawaji; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Haemophilia; Bone mineral density; Prophylaxis; Health related quality of life; Physical activity.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Osteoporosis is increasingly recognised as one of the major public health problems throughout the world and has massive socioeconomic implications. It has previously been shown that patients with severe haemophilia and not receiving any prophylactic treatment render a high risk of reduced bone density. LÄS MER
