11. The role of S100A4 protein as a regulator of inflammation and bone metabolism in experimental arthritis
Sammanfattning : S100A4 belongs to the family of calcium-binding S100 proteins and modulates cell proliferation, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell motility, and angiogenesis. Increased levels of S100A4 expression correlate with high incidence of metastasis of cancers. LÄS MER
12. Bone and fat tissue in children and adolescents: studies with focus on osteocalcin
Sammanfattning : The general AIM was to investigate the possible interplay between bone and fat tissue through clinical studies of children and adolescents. Osteocalcin (OC), a bone formation marker, has been proposed to act as a link between bone and energy metabolism in mice, but human data are inconclusive. LÄS MER
13. The influence of alcohol on bone metabolism and fracture healing
Sammanfattning : The influence of alcohol on bone metabolism, fracture and fracture healing was evaluated in men and male rats by measurements of bone mineral density (BMD), biochemical markers and biomechanical testings. Retrospectively, 199 male patients hospitalized for tibia shaft fractures were studied. Forty-nine were judged as problem drinkers. LÄS MER
14. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, aspects of graft choice, graft fixation and bone mineral loss
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to measure bone mineral changes in the calcanei, hips and lumbar spine of patients reconstructed with bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) or hamstring tendon (HT) autografts following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Furthermore, the aim was to compare the clinical results after ACL revision reconstruction with either reharvested ipsilateral or contralateral BPTB autografts. LÄS MER
15. The effects of cyclosporin A on bone turnover and repair
Sammanfattning : The effects of cyclosporin A on bone metabolism are unclear and controversial. The aims of this thesis were to study the effects of cyclosporin A on bone turnover and on different repair processes such as fracture healing, osteoinduction and osteoconduction. LÄS MER
