  1. 1. Bone and Aluminium

    Författare :Hans-Olov Hellström; Karl Michaëlsson; Hans Mallmin; Olle Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; Aluminium; Osteoporosis; Hip fracture; Osteoporotic fracture; Alzheimer´s dementia; Bone mineral density; Bone mineral content; Mortality risk; Biomechanics; Inductively coupled mass spectrometry; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a major health care problem, by reason of its devastating consequences, in particular hip fractures. Worldwide it has been estimated that the incidence of hip fracture will increase to more than 6 million per year by 2050 compared to 1.7 million per year in 1990. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Risk factors for bone fragility and fracture in postmenopausal women

    Författare :Ola Svejme; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone Fragility; Fracture; Osteoporosis; Bone Mineral Density BMD ; Menopause; Physical activity; Bone Strength; Bone Size; Bone Densitometry;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate risk factors for bone fragility and fractures in postmenopausal women in a long-term perspective. The study period spanned from the age of 48 to age 82 and is thus unique in its length. The studied sample was homogeneous and consisted of 390 north European women from a population-based cohort. 3. 3. Predictors of bone fragility in older women. Associations in older women between risk medications and measurements of physical function, bone microstructure and fracture risk

    Författare :Berit A M Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; osteoporosis; risk prediction; fracture; risk medication; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors; statins; physical function; timed up and go; one leg standing test;

    Sammanfattning : Bone fragility with fractures constitutes a growing public health concern, resulting in suffering and major health care cost. This thesis project has been carried out by means of studies based on the SUPERB cohort of 75–80-year-old women from Gothenburg. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of bone quality and risk assessments in fracture and elective orthopaedic patients

    Författare :Camilla Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fracture; Fracture incidence; Epidemiology; Mortality; Osteoporosis; Frailty; Spinal stenosis; Bone quality; Bone mineral density;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Bone quality, bone strength, and bone remodelling are important in many orthopaedic conditions and can have an impact on fracture incidence, bone healing, implant failure, and different outcome aspects. There is relatively sparse information on fracture incidence and mortality both for all fractures compiled and for some of the individual fracture locations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exercise in Youth and Long-Term Effects on Bone and Joints

    Författare :Magnus Tveit; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arthroplasty; BMD; bone mass; bone geometry; bone size; exercise; former athletes; fracture; fragility fracture; knee injury; osteoarthritis; osteoporosis; hip injury; runners; soccer; total joint replacement;

    Sammanfattning : Partly due to an ageing population, the number of osteoporosis-related fractures and osteoarthritis (OA)-related hip and knee arthroplasty procedures is increasing. The individual suffering and the burden on society for these conditions is immense. LÄS MER
