1. Survival of onlay bone grafts. A study in the adult rat
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study onlay bone grafting in the adult rat to improve graft incorporation and perservation of graft size. In 167 adult isogeneic lewis rats, the size maintenance and bone formation at the graft-host interface of uni- and bicortical onlays positioned in various environments and treatments were investigated. 2. Aspects of maxillary sinus reconstruction with endosseous implants
Sammanfattning : This study of maxillary sinus reconstruction in conjunction with insertion of endosseous implants included 99 patients. Two separate surgical methods were applied; a one-staged strategy (n=49) and a two-staged strategy (n=50). The aims were to compare two different strategies concerning implant and prosthetic construction survival. LÄS MER
3. BMP implants in bone formation. Studies in rabbits and rats
Sammanfattning : Bone morphogenic proteins, BMPs, are a group endogenous proteins that are highly conserved through evolution. The amino acid sequences of about 15 different BMPs are now known and recombinant human BMPs are commercially available. Implantation of an individual BMP protein is sufficient to induce bone formation even at a subcutaneous site. LÄS MER
4. Bone tissue regeneration indento-alveolar surgery : clinical and experimental studies on biomaterials and bone graft substitutes
Sammanfattning : Pathological processes in the alveolar and facial bones can lead to bone loss that may not heal with complete regeneration. Biomaterials can be used to facilitate the healing process and/or as a bone substitute, but the mechanisms are not fully understood. LÄS MER
5. Basic fibroblast growth factor for stimulation of bone formation in osteoinductive and conductive implants
Sammanfattning : Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (bFGF) is one of the endogenous factors found in bone matrix. bFGF is a mitogen for many cell types, including osteoblasts and chondrocytes. It can stimulate angiogenesis and osteoblast gene expression. LÄS MER
