  1. 31. Bone Mineral Density Determination in Children. Evaluation of a novel method and application to Duchenne muscular dystrophy

    Författare :Ann-Charlott Söderpalm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adolescents; age- and gender-matched; Becker; bone densitometry; bone markers; bone mineral density; calciotropic hormones; children; DXA; DXL; Duchenne; glucocorticoids; muscular dystrophy; normative; reference values; skeleton;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate the dual-energy X-ray and laser (DXL) method for bone densitometry measurements of the calcaneus in children, to provide reference data for bone mineral density (BMD) in the heel bone in young children and to apply the DXL technique to patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and conduct a survey about bone health of DMD patients. Study populations and methods: The DXL Calscan method was modified and adapted for measurements in children and applied to bone densitometry in all subsequent studies. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Craniofacial bone reconstruction with bone morphogenetic protein-2

    Författare :Ann-Charlott Docherty Skogh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bone morphogenetic protein;

    Sammanfattning : Bone defects in the craniofacial area are a clinical challenge and can be the result of trauma, tumour resection or congenital malformations. The golden standard for reconstruction is autologous bone grafts, but bone may not always be readily available and donor-site morbidity might follow. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Effects of Interleukin-4 and Interleukin-13 on Bone

    Författare :Carl-Johan Silfverswärd; Olle Nilsson; Östen Ljunggren; Kenneth Jonsson; Li Felländer-Tsai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Bone; Osteoblasts; Interleukin-4; Interleukin-13; Knockout; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cytokines play important roles in bone metabolism, participating in the complex interplay necessary for normal bone formation and turnover. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the effects of two anti-inflammatory cytokines, interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-13 (IL-13) on bone. LÄS MER

  4. 34. The neuropeptide VIP and the IL-6 family of cytokines in bone : effects on bone resorption, cytokine expression and receptor signalling in osteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells

    Författare :Emma Persson; Ulf Lerner; Andreas Kindmark; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; osteoblast; bone resorption; cytokines; IL-6; neuropeptides; VIP; transcription factor; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bone tissue is continuously degraded and rebuilt to respond to the needs of the body. Cells of the osteoblast lineage are responsible for the formation of bone, whereas the resorption of bone tissue is carried out by osteoclasts. LÄS MER

  5. 35. On tissue reactions to and resorption of bone substitutes

    Författare :Arne Mordenfeld; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone graft; bone substitutes; sinus floor augmentation; lateral ridge augmentation;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The increasing need for bone grafting procedures inimplant dentistry and the introduction of a variety of bone substitutesrequire a deeper understanding of the biological response and shortandlong-term behaviour of these materials to choose the adequategraft and surgical procedure for the intended clinical application.Aims: The overall aim was to clinically and histologically studythe short- and long-term tissue reactions to and resorption of bonesubstitutes after bone augmentation.
