  1. 11. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and inflammatory bone modeling

    Författare :Ali Kassem; Ulf Lerner; Pernilla Lundberg; Pedro Souza; Timothy Arnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toll-like receptor; osteoclast; osteoblast; bone resorption; bone formation; P. gingivalis; S. aureus; flagellin.;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with inflammatory or infectious conditions such as periodontitis, peri-implantitis, osteomyelitis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis and loosened joint prosthesis display varying severity of destruction in the adjacent bone tissue. Bone loss in inflammatory diseases is considered a consequence of cytokine induced RANKL and subsequent enhanced osteoclast formation. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The Anabolic - Anti-catabolic Paradigm of Augmenting Skeletal Regeneration: A Bone Quality Perspective

    Författare :Neashan Mathavan; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone fracture; Fracture healing; bone quality; Bone biomechanics; bone morphogenetic protein-7; Zoledronate; skeletal regeneration;

    Sammanfattning : Successful fracture repair is a complex series of coordinated processes leading to regeneration of new bone to bridge the fracture site, remodelling of the newly formed bone and restoration of skeletal function. Disruption of these processes occurs in approximately 10% of all fractures and leads to delayed or failed healing requiring surgical interventions, increased complication rates, prolonged rehabilitation and high morbidity. 3. 13. Basic fibroblast growth factor for stimulation of bone formation in osteoinductive and conductive implants

    Författare :Jian-Sheng Wang; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Biofysik; Biophysics; bone ingrowth; titanium chamber; hyaluronic acid; porous hydroxyapatite; bone graft; bFGF; demineralized bone matrix; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (bFGF) is one of the endogenous factors found in bone matrix. bFGF is a mitogen for many cell types, including osteoblasts and chondrocytes. It can stimulate angiogenesis and osteoblast gene expression. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Bone turnover markers and prediction of bone loss in elderly women

    Författare :Janaka Lenora; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone turnover markers; DXA; elderly; osteoporosis; scintigraphy; Bone mineral density; quantitative ultrasound of the calcaneus; bone loss;

    Sammanfattning : Around 70,000 osteoporosis-related fractures occur in Sweden annually and approximately half of the women in western world will sustain a fragility fracture after the age of 50 years. Fracture preventive efforts require the identification of individuals who are at high risk. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Bone Regeneration with Cell-free Injectable Scaffolds

    Författare :Gry Hulsart Billström; Sune Larsson; Kenneth B Jonsson; Jöns Hilborn; Håkan Engqvist; Olle Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Bone is a remarkable multifunctional tissue with the ability to regenerate and remodel without generating any scar tissue. However, bone loss due to injury or diseases can be a great challenge and affect the patient significantly. Autologous bone grafting is commonly used throughout the world. LÄS MER
